Loc Thanh border commune today

Being a land far from the center, in the past, the life of the people in the border commune of Loc Thanh, Dong Nai province was still difficult, the infrastructure was still lacking. However, thanks to the attention of the province to invest in infrastructure along with the direction and management of the Party Committee and the government; the participation of the political system and the efforts of the people, the appearance of this border land is changing day by day, the people's lives are constantly improving.

Leaders of Loc Thanh Commune People's Committee visited the green, environmentally friendly agricultural model in the locality.

A difficult time

Bordering the Kingdom of Cambodia, Loc Thanh commune used to be one of the most disadvantaged localities in Dong Nai province. Previously, the lives of local people were closely linked to gardens and fields, and transport infrastructure was limited; traveling and transporting agricultural products encountered many difficulties.

In addition to economic and infrastructure difficulties, Loc Thanh also faces a lot of pressure in protecting security and order in the border area. The area is large and sparsely populated, so the patrolling and control work of the border guards and local authorities is very difficult.

However, in such hardships, the spirit of solidarity and efforts of the local people have always been promoted. The people always try to believe in the Party; comply with the State's policies and guidelines; and together maintain peace in the border areas.

New look at the border

Since July 1, implementing the administrative boundary arrangement, Loc Thanh commune is now established on the basis of arranging two administrative units: Loc Thanh commune and Loc Hoa commune (Loc Ninh district, former Binh Phuoc province).

Loc Thanh has a favorable location when it is adjacent to Hoa Lu International Border Gate - one of the important trading points of Dong Nai and the provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The main roads connecting the center of Loc Thanh commune with the border gate have been invested, creating favorable conditions for trading goods. Trading activities at the border gate are increasing rapidly in scale and diversifying goods, contributing to increasing the economic potential of the locality.

In recent times, with the attention of leaders at all levels, the locality has received basic investment in the traffic system, from the center to residential areas has been 100% asphalted; Hoa Lu International Border Gate is also developing. Along with that, the local government is determined to carry out the task of socio-economic development, taking advantage of resources as well as orienting people to develop the economy, stabilize their lives, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the locality.

Mr. Tran Trong Quang, Director of Uy Vu Company Limited (Loc Thanh Commune) shared: “Customs clearance of goods of enterprises is currently very good. Departments, branches and localities create good conditions for enterprises. I see that the import-export situation has no difficulties, enterprises trade goods very easily”.

Not only Hoa Lu International Border Gate but Hoa Lu Border Gate Economic Zone also invested in basic infrastructure such as: traffic roads, parking lots, goods gathering..., creating favorable conditions for the operations of companies in the economic zone. Currently, Hoa Lu Border Gate Economic Zone has 86 investors with 34 active projects, thereby creating jobs for more than 600 local workers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh (in Thanh Bien hamlet, Loc Thanh commune, Dong Nai province) shared: "In the past, local unskilled workers had to go to Ho Chi Minh City or neighboring localities to find work. Now that businesses are operating in the area, people can work locally, close to home, so it is very convenient."

Economic development through border gate and economic zone activities has brought positive impacts to the locality, contributing to job creation and increasing income for people in this border commune.

Transformation from Party's will - people's heart

Not only focusing on commercial development, Loc Thanh commune also proactively develops agriculture suitable to the local climate and soil. Through the propaganda of the government, people have chosen crops and livestock suitable to the soil conditions and market demand to develop the family economy.

The more than 20ha fruit garden of Tan Loc Thanh Cooperative is cared for according to VietGAP guidelines. Applying science and technology and using biological fertilizers to care for the garden is the method that members of the cooperative practice.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and Director of Tan Loc Thanh Cooperative, applying science and technology to production and focusing on sustainable agricultural development not only helps farmers catch up with new production thinking but also increases the competitiveness of the products.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi confided: “Loc Thanh Commune has organized training sessions on clean product production, helping cooperative members know how to apply it in production. That is a sustainable direction that all members want to pursue, because besides profit, the health of producers and consumers is first and foremost. Currently, the cooperative's fruits are all produced according to VietGAP standards, striving towards GlobalGAP.”

Currently, many agricultural production models associated with product consumption linkages and agricultural cooperatives in Loc Thanh commune have been formed, helping farmers feel secure in investing and increasing product value. The annual crop area of ​​Loc Thanh commune is more than 1,200 hectares and perennial crops are more than 4,100 hectares.

Along with economic development, poverty reduction programs and support for ethnic minorities have been effectively implemented, helping many households stabilize their lives. Loc Thanh commune has promoted the implementation of the Advanced New Rural Development Program and focused on building a model New Rural Residential Area. Up to now, Loc Thanh has no poor households and only 4 near-poor households.

An important highlight of Loc Thanh is the maintained border security. The local government and people always closely coordinate with the border guards in the management and protection of the border and landmarks, building a peaceful, friendly border for mutual development.

From a difficult border area, today Loc Thanh has changed significantly. That achievement is not only the result of infrastructure investment but also a vivid proof of the determination, will and belief of the people here. With available potential and right investment, the border commune of Loc Thanh promises to continue to reap many results, contributing to the overall development of the province.
