Border guards help people anchor boats before the storm |
Ready to prevent, combat and respond to storms
Since the end of July 2025, in the face of the complicated developments of major storms (storm No. 3, storm No. 5, storm No. 10), border guard units on the two border lines have strictly followed the instructions of their superiors, with the motto "4 on-site". In particular, border posts and stations on the sea border have proactively coordinated closely with local authorities and forces to organize communication and call on ships to take shelter in safe places. At the same time, they have increased patrols, controlled the area and propagated fishermen to strictly comply with regulations on storm prevention and control.
Typically, before the recent storms No. 5 and No. 10, the Thuan An Port Border Guard Station sent forces to mobilize and help people to reinforce their houses, mobilize more than 700 boats to anchor and take shelter safely; and coordinate with forces to evacuate more than 800 households/2,800 people to safe places to avoid the storm.
The working delegation of the Border Guard Command continuously visited units managing key and important areas such as the Thuan An Port Border Guard Station; Border Guard Squadron 2, etc., to inspect storm prevention, response and response work. Colonel Hoang Minh Hung, Commander of the City Border Guard, said: The units have always strictly maintained combat readiness, fully deployed forces and vehicles. Officers and soldiers (CBCS) stick close to the area, stick closely to fishermen, proactively take all plans, and closely coordinate with the locality. The entire force has mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers along with dozens of vehicles of all kinds (ships, boats, specialized cars), ready to maneuver to carry out tasks when situations arise.
In the spirit of being ready to rescue and protect people's lives and property, on October 7, the Thuan An Port Border Guard Station and the Border Guard Squadron 2 received orders from their superiors and immediately mobilized officers and soldiers and vehicles to launch. The Border Guard Squadron 2 ship, commanded by Major Nguyen Quang Thanh, Squadron Leader, coordinated with functional units to cut through the waves to go out to sea, rescue, provide health care, and bring 3/4 of the fishermen in Thuan An ward who were in distress due to a collision at sea to shore safely.
Lieutenant Colonel Luu Xuan Nghiem, Political Commissar of Thuan An Port Border Guard Station, said: Regarding the missing fishermen, the unit is currently actively implementing coordination activities with forces and people, on the one hand, increasing patrols and searching coastal areas; at the same time, participating in surveys and determining the location of the sunken fishing boat. "We are coordinating with agencies to visit the homes of experienced fishermen to consult their opinions, to effectively serve the search and rescue work, quickly finding the missing victims" - Lieutenant Colonel Luu Xuan Nghiem said.
Protect people's lives and property
Affected by storm No. 10, Mr. Nguyen Tan Phu's fishing boat (Xuan An residential group, Thuan An ward) was anchored at Phu Thuan fishing port, but due to big waves and strong winds, the anchor rope broke, causing the boat to crash into the concrete pillar of the fishing port, leading to the boat sinking. The Thuan An port border guard station mobilized the maximum force of officers and soldiers to directly participate in supporting the salvage and overcoming the consequences; helping to bring assets and fishing gear on the boat ashore, so that the salvage work could be quick and convenient.
Previously, officers and soldiers of Thuan An Port Border Guard Station coordinated with local authorities and local people to successfully salvage a fishing boat of fisherman Nguyen Van Muon (An Duong 3 village, Thuan An ward) that sank in the anchorage area due to heavy rain and strong winds. The salvage was successful, with no loss of life or property.
In order to promptly assist people in natural disasters, storms and floods, and in the face of unusual weather developments, the Border Guard force has promoted the spirit of volunteerism. In 2025, 31 campaigns/nearly 400 officers and soldiers were organized to help people harvest rice, tie and support houses, and overcome the consequences of storms, floods, and storms; more than 100 officers and soldiers participated in 5 forest fire fighting cases; more than 20 campaigns/nearly 400 officers and soldiers were deployed to handle and collect the amount of oil clumps drifting ashore, transferring 151.73 tons of oil clumps to the staging area, contributing to ensuring the living and production environment of the people.
According to Colonel Dang Ngoc Hieu, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the City Border Guard, from the command to the grassroots units, political and ideological education is regularly conducted, thoroughly understanding the tasks of civil defense, natural disaster prevention and control, and search and rescue for officers and soldiers; identifying this as a combat task in peacetime; demonstrating the role, functions and tasks of the army in general, and the Border Guard force in particular, before the Party, State and People.
