The flood swept everything away

The ground-floor house and 1.5 hectares of crops of Mr. Tran Van Phu's family in Quang Lac village, D'ran commune, Lam Dong province became desolate after the fierce flood at the end of November.

Mr. Phu's family lives more than 100 meters from the spillway of the Da Nhim Hydropower Plant. On the night of November 19, when the hydropower plant discharged floodwaters, his family was urgently evacuated by the local authorities. Thanks to that, the whole family was safe, but all the assets they had built up over more than 40 years were swept away by the floodwaters.

Despite being left empty-handed after the flood, what warmed Mr. Phu's heart was the concern of local authorities and party committees.

On the afternoon of November 26, the local authorities came to the site to donate 40 million VND. This amount was taken from the budget of D'Ran commune, providing emergency support to households that lost their homes.

Mr. Phu emotionally said that although the property damage could not be compensated, the timely attention of the local authorities had given his family more motivation to gradually overcome difficulties and start a new life.

“The coming days will certainly be difficult, but in this situation we must accept and try to overcome. What warms my heart the most is the care, encouragement and timely support from organizations, philanthropists and local authorities. That is the motivation for my family to get up after the disaster,” Mr. Phu shared.

The family of Mr. Le Quoc Minh, in Quang Lac village, was also severely damaged in the recent flood. In addition to the family’s house collapsing, all the Tet goods that Mr. Minh and his wife had just imported were also swept away. Life was already difficult, and after the flood, it became even more difficult.

Mr. Minh sadly said: “We had just saved up and borrowed some capital to import Tet goods, hoping to earn extra income at the end of the year. Unexpectedly, in just one night, the floodwaters came and swept everything away. My husband and I stood there, helpless.”
