After ten years of being a farmer, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen (37 years old) is putting all his efforts into his first startup, the application and social network honvang, with the message: "Health is better than gold".

Farmers struggle to sell clean agricultural products

Farmer Duc Tuyen appeared young in a gray shirt, holding a bunch of agricultural products wrapped in banana leaves. He used to be a graphic designer, but about 10 years ago, he decided to leave Ho Chi Minh City to return to his hometown in Dong Nai to start a career growing bananas.

After 4 years of being fed up with "good harvest, low price, good price, bad harvest", he went back to Lam Dong . Still working as a farmer in the new land, but this time growing coffee and macadamia.

"This is clean food, grown naturally so it's very good," Mr. Tuyen immediately introduced the agricultural products he brought.

Having many years of experience, he understands the hardships of farmers, especially those with small annual output. Every crop season, farmers struggle to find outlets.

Sometimes, even if you only sell a few bunches of vegetables, you still have to wake up at 3am to go to the field, pick the vegetables, tie them up, and then take them to the market to sell individually. Meanwhile, vegetables labeled as clean and of good quality are always sought after even though the price is not cheap.

"I shared the farmers' suffering with the determination to make this application with a friend who is a technology engineer working abroad but also passionate about Vietnamese agricultural products. I think everyone deserves to use fresh, clean food at a stable price," said Mr. Tuyen about the reason for creating honvang.

Food on the plate still shows the image of the planting day

He said he did not build a platform like online markets, because in addition to connecting agricultural products, he also took advantage of technology to connect farmers, where sellers meet buyers.

Anyone who wants to sell agricultural products and food on the app must verify their personal information and location. Sellers must update full information and images from the seeds, sowing date, release date, growth process, and harvest date.

This information is shared publicly. Customers are allowed to view, comment and deposit to buy the product early if the plant or animal is not yet ready to harvest, can buy at a preferential price, and choose the time of harvest.

That is also the information that serves as the basis for tracing the origin. Even if the food is bought and sold through the application, cooked and served on a plate, all information about the origin can still be viewed.

The above features have been successfully developed with the honvang application which has now been launched on the AppStore. The artificial intelligence (AI) technology integrated by the honvang team will take on many roles.

In which, AI will collect data from searches, information declared by customers, then analyze, build and suggest menus of dishes suitable for the customer's physical condition, health and requirements.

"What fruit, animal, or meat is valuable, nutritious, suitable for which person, and good to eat will be statistically and recommended by AI. AI also recommends which garden is closest to the customer to consider when ordering," said Mr. Tuyen.

Currently, the honvang application has many preferential policies for users. For now, buying and selling on the application will be completely free.

In the long term, Mr. Tuyen said he expects to collect about 10% of the total value of each order. And when the ecosystem is strong enough, the number of customers and farmers participating is large enough, then it is possible to set up a separate distribution unit.
