On October 26th, in Da Nang city, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund ( Ministry of Health ) collaborated with the Da Nang Department of Health to organize a campaign to strengthen the implementation of smoke-free environments in restaurants, hotels, and public places.

This is one of a series of activities being implemented in key tourism provinces and cities such as Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Khanh Hoa, aiming to protect public health and contribute to concretizing Vietnam's commitment to implementing the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harm.

The campaign calls on the community to collectively establish civilized behavior and respect for others by saying "no" to smoking in public places.

Through this initiative, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund aims to raise awareness among residents and tourists about their right to breathe clean air, contributing to building an image of a safe, friendly, and smoke-free tourist destination.

Highlights of the campaign included: ambassadors sharing the message "Smoke-Free - For a Healthy Community," a launching ceremony to support the campaign, cycling to raise awareness in central streets, and displaying "no smoking" signs at 200 hotels and restaurants in Da Nang city.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Phan Thi Hai, Deputy Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health), said that a smoke-free environment not only protects the health of residents and tourists, reducing the risk of disease, but also helps improve the quality of service and the image of Vietnam's tourism industry.

"When entering a hotel or restaurant, what guests feel is not just luxury, but also a clean, safe, and pleasant atmosphere. That is the criterion that reflects the class and prestige of the establishment," Ms. Hai emphasized.

Representing the host locality, Mr. Truong Quang Binh, Deputy Director of the Da Nang City Department of Health, affirmed that Da Nang considers building a smoke-free environment as a commitment to tourists and the international community, reflecting the image of a green, civilized, friendly, and livable city.

He stated that the Department of Health will continue to advise the City People's Committee on solutions to strengthen management and improve inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms; while also promoting propaganda, inspection, supervision, and expanding the model of "Smoke-Free Units" and "Green, Clean, and Friendly Hotels and Restaurants" in the area.
