On October 26, in Da Nang city, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund ( Ministry of Health ) coordinated with the Da Nang Department of Health to organize a campaign to strengthen the implementation of smoke-free environments in restaurants, hotels and public places.
This is one of a series of activities being implemented in key tourism provinces and cities such as Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa, aiming to protect public health, contributing to concretizing Vietnam's commitment to implementing the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms.
The campaign calls on the community to form civilized standards of behavior and respect others by saying "no" to smoking in public places.
Through this, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund hopes to raise awareness among people and tourists about the right to breathe fresh air, contributing to building the image of a safe, friendly, smoke-free tourist destination.
Outstanding activities in the campaign include: ambassadors sharing the message "No smoking - For a healthy community", launching ceremony in response to the campaign, cycling to promote on central streets, and hanging "no smoking" signs at 200 hotels and restaurants in Da Nang city.

Speaking at the event, MSc. Phan Thi Hai - Deputy Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health) - said that a smoke-free environment not only protects the health of people and tourists, reduces the risk of disease, but also helps improve the quality of services and image of Vietnam's tourism industry.
"When entering a hotel or restaurant, what visitors feel is not only luxury, but also a fresh, safe and comfortable space. That is the criterion that shows the class and reputation of the service facility," Ms. Hai emphasized.
Representative of the host locality, MSc. Truong Quang Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Da Nang City - affirmed that Da Nang considers building a smoke-free environment as a commitment to tourists and the international community, demonstrating the image of a green, civilized, friendly and livable city.
He said the Department of Health will continue to advise the City People's Committee on solutions to strengthen management and improve inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms; at the same time, step up propaganda, inspection, supervision and replication of the models of "Smoke-free units" and "Green, clean, friendly hotels and restaurants" in the area.
