SEA Games 33 Men's Football Group C Standings: Indonesia U22 Eliminated - Graphic: AN BINH
On the evening of December 12th, the Indonesian U22 team faced Myanmar in the final match of Group C in the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games. Coach Kim Sang Sik's team's victory over Malaysia U22 on December 11th had opened up an opportunity for Indonesia to aim for a semi-final spot.
After their opening match defeat against the Philippines, the Indonesian U22 team needed to win by at least three goals in this match to advance to the next round. Surprisingly, Myanmar was the team that scored the opening goal against the Indonesian team.
On the other hand, the Indonesian players appeared helpless against the opposing defense throughout the first half. It was only thanks to a mistake by the Myanmar goalkeeper that they managed to equalize in the final minutes of the first half.
Despite their best efforts in the second half and injury time, Indonesia could only score two more goals, both courtesy of naturalized striker Jens Raven. And that was all Indonesia could manage.
In the end, U22 Indonesia won 3-1 against Myanmar. This result helped Indonesia secure second place in Group C of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games with 3 points and a goal difference of +1. However, the Indonesian team had to leave the tournament as they could not become the best-performing second-placed team.
Meanwhile, the Philippines secured their place in the semi-finals of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games by finishing first in Group C (6 points, goal difference +3). Myanmar finished last in the group after two defeats (0 points, goal difference -4).
