On the afternoon of December 12th, Nguyen Thi Ngoc and Hoang Thi Minh Hanh represented Vietnam in the final of the women's 400m athletics event at the 33rd SEA Games. They also competed against athletes from Thailand and the Philippines.
The two Vietnamese track and field athletes showed great determination right from the preparation minutes. While Minh Hạnh started in lane 4, Ngọc started in position 7.
Following the starting signal from the referee, the Vietnamese women's track and field team set off with all their might. From the very first strides, Nguyen Thi Ngoc had an advantage over her competitors.
Throughout the 400m race, Nguyen Thi Ngoc consistently led and gave her all with every stride.
With about 100 meters remaining, Josephine of host country Thailand made a burst of speed and kept pace with Vietnam's golden girl of athletics. However, Nguyen Thi Ngoc gave her opponent no chance, maintaining her speed to keep the distance.
Finally, Vietnamese fans had reason to celebrate as Nguyen Thi Ngoc was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 52.74 seconds. With this, she brilliantly brought home the gold medal for Vietnamese athletics.
After finishing her run, she seemed to lack the strength to continue standing.
Despite being exhausted, Vietnam's golden girl of athletics proudly draped herself in the Vietnamese flag and celebrated her victory with joy.
