Currently, Thanh Thúy plays for Gunma Green Wings, a club competing in Japan's top league, the SV League. This raises doubts about her ability to participate in the SEA Games 33.
Typically, clubs only release players for major tournaments. The SEA Games, after all, is only a regional competition in Southeast Asia, so it's not easy for teams from strong volleyball nations like Japan to agree to let their athletes join the national team.
It's even more noteworthy that Thanh Thúy is one of the best players on Gunma Green Wings, if not the best. In the two games played so far, she has consistently been in the starting lineup and has often shone.
Vietnam's star hitter consistently appears on Gunma Green Wings' list of top scorers. Therefore, it becomes even more difficult for the club to allow Thanh Thúy to join the national team.
However, according to our sources, Gunma Green Wings has accepted the offer from the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. This means that Thanh Thúy will be able to compete at the SEA Games 33.
This can be considered good news for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet. For many years, the girl born in 1997 has always been a mainstay of the team thanks to her all-around offensive and defensive abilities. In addition, Thanh Thuy is also a strong source of emotional support, which is why she was chosen as captain despite having limited playing time due to injury.
Besides Thanh Thúy, middle blocker Trần Thị Bích Thủy will also be released by another Japanese club, Okayama Seagulls, to participate in the SEA Games. Therefore, overall, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will almost have its best possible squad. Only the case of Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền remains unclear, as she may be injured.
