The railway industry sent two trains carrying rocks weighing more than 1,100 tons to reinforce and prevent the Bach Ho and Da Vien railway bridges from drifting due to rising floodwaters.

On the afternoon of October 29, Mr. Le Hong Hai - Director of Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company - informed that he was dispatching two trains carrying rocks to load the Bach Ho and Da Vien bridges.

"Currently, the water level of the Huong River is rising and is 15cm below the bottom of the bridge girder. We are in the process of sending two trains to load the two bridges," said Mr. Hai.

The company said that because Binh Dien Hydropower Plant continues to discharge floodwaters, the water level on the Huong River is rising rapidly.

To serve the relief load for Bach Ho and Da Vien bridges, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company requested relevant units to gather stone-carrying ships from the south and north to rescue Bach Ho and Da Vien bridges.

There are currently 19 crushed stone wagons at Lang Co station, 7 boulder wagons at Huong Thuy station, and 11 crushed stone wagons at Hien Sy station.

After loading on the bridge, the cars and locomotive will be brought to Hue station.

Previously, on the evening of October 27, the railway industry had dispatched two trains carrying rocks to load these two bridges. On the morning of October 29, when the flood level on the Huong River receded, the two trains were withdrawn.

The two railway bridges Bach Ho and Da Vien across the Perfume River were built by the French in 1908.

According to the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, floods on rivers in Hue City are rising rapidly again. The water level at 3:00 p.m. on October 29 on the Huong River at Kim Long station was 4.57 m (the flood peak at 8:00 p.m. on October 27 reached 5.05 m, the second highest, 0.76 m lower than in 1999).

On Bo River at Phu Oc station 4.97m (flood peak at 2:00 p.m. on October 27 reached 5.25m, exceeding the historical level in 2020 by 0.01m).

In the next 12 hours, flood levels on rivers will continue to rise, possibly peaking at a level 0.1 - 0.2m lower than the flood peak on October 28, then slowly decreasing.
