Controversial image of Mr. Noor Azman (right) next to FIFA President. |
The image quickly spread on social media, causing public opinion to question whether Mr. Noor Azman was "crossing the line" and continuing to participate in work related to FAM? Many people even wondered whether FAM had actually suspended Mr. Noor Azman.
While FAM is still struggling to overcome the consequences of the naturalization of 7 players, the image of Mr. Noor Azman standing next to the FIFA President has caused the reputation of Malaysian football to continue to be put under the lens of doubt.
Facing the wave of outrage, FAM was forced to issue an official statement. The federation affirmed that the photo was taken during a private meeting, unrelated to any official activities of FAM or FIFA.
"Noor Azman attended the event in his personal capacity, not representing FAM or performing any official duties," FAM stated. The federation also emphasized that since his suspension on October 17, Mr. Noor Azman has not participated in any FAM meetings or programs.
The suspension decision stems from a shocking incident last month, when the FIFA Disciplinary Committee found FAM in violation of Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which relates to the falsification of documents certifying the origin of naturalized players.
According to the conclusion, 7 players Facundo Garces, Imanol Machuca, Hector Hevel, Gabriel Palmero, Rodrigo Holgado, Joao Figueiredo and Jon Irazabal used fake birth certificates to legalize their naturalization status to play for the Malaysian national team.
