Prioritizing exploring local cuisine and choosing spontaneous trips instead of pre-arranged vacations is the trend among tourists next year.
The information was released by the Netherlands-based booking app Booking in its latest Travel Trends 2024 Study report on November 7. The results are based on a study of travel trends of nearly 28,000 travelers in 33 countries and territories combined with Booking data. The survey participants were all adults who planned to travel for business or pleasure in the next 12-24 months.

Pursuing a new self is one of the 7 travel trends of 2024. Creating an epic version of yourself while traveling will help travelers feel excited about their trips.
76% feel that vacations are a chance to fully enjoy themselves, to escape from everyday constraints and be their true selves. 56% said they are willing to pay more to rent a better car than the one they usually drive to gain more confidence. 65% of Vietnamese travelers said they feel like the "main character" on their trips and want to be the "star of their life". 78% of respondents said they want to stay anonymous when traveling so that no one knows who they are and see it as an opportunity to reinvent themselves. Traveling therefore brings a new personal interface for travelers to share online.

“Cool” vacations were the second trend mentioned. Global warming is increasing the number of travelers looking for destinations that help them escape the heat. 75% of Vietnamese travelers said that global climate change will significantly impact the way they plan their trips and will choose cooler places than where they are now.
82% of Vietnamese tourists like to stay near the sea or river because it brings a feeling of relaxation and coolness to the soul. This leads to the forecast of underwater relaxation and resort services to become popular next year such as underwater meditation, floating yoga, hydrotherapy. Mountain resorts, snow-covered places or underwater hotels will be the places that many tourists pay attention to in 2024.
The third travel trend is Letting Go of Control . Travelers in 2024 are more likely to choose spontaneous adventures. 62% of respondents would book a trip without researching the destination in advance. They want to skip pre-arranged vacations and explore new, less-known lands with strangers. Nearly 60% of Vietnamese travelers said they would not plan ahead for their vacation, 81% would have a flexible plan to change their schedule at any time they want. 65% of Vietnamese travelers trust AI to help them plan their travel for the next year.
Food explorers are the fourth trend. 73% of Vietnamese tourists want to explore dishes on their "must-try" list when visiting a new place. 94% of Vietnamese tourists want to try local cuisine and explore traditional flavors.
Indigenous travel experiences are forecast to surge by 2024, taking travelers on culinary journeys and engaging stories, bringing pride and income to communities around the world.
Healing retreats are the trend that everyone is looking towards next year. With the constant changes happening in many places, tourists will look towards trips that help them develop themselves and find the life they desire.
62% of single Vietnamese travelers spend their vacation time looking for a new love or relationship. Tired and busy parents are also more likely to book personal vacations. 66% of parents in the Asia-Pacific region said they would go on a solo trip without their children or spouse to “prioritize time for themselves”.
In addition, optimizing budgets and prioritizing luxury travel will also be the trend of the coming year. Travelers will cut costs on unnecessary things and use these savings to exchange for high-class vacation experiences like the elite.
48% of respondents choose destinations with a lower cost of living than where they currently live. Traveling closer to home also attracts visitors looking for luxury but less expensive vacations. 66% of Vietnamese travelers are willing to buy a day pass to use the facilities of a 5-star hotel instead of staying there to enjoy the service. 66% said they would ask for their children to take time off from school to travel during the low season, cutting costs.
Aesthetics combined with mindfulness is the final trend of 2024 that Booking predicts. 73% of Vietnamese travelers are looking for accommodation with unique architecture, high aesthetics but still solving environmental and social challenges.
78% of respondents want to see sustainable initiatives put into practice, and 83% want rooms designed with green spaces and plants that mimic natural outdoor scenery.
Varun Grover, Country Manager of Booking.com Vietnam, said that travel in 2024 is not simply an escape from real life but also a way for us to enjoy life with passion and excitement. The fact that Vietnamese tourists maintain their desire to explore more sustainably and respect the cultural heritage of the places they visit is a "very encouraging" signal, according to Varun.
