On April 15, 1946, the French colonial forces mobilized two battalions along with many modern weapons to attack from three directions. Despite the disparity in forces, the soldiers and people of Giong Bom fought bravely, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. In this battle, 137 people heroically sacrificed their lives.

The Battle of Giồng Bốm in 1946 was one of the largest battles in the Southwestern region of Vietnam during the early days of the resistance in the South, clearly demonstrating the spirit of "fighting to the death for the Fatherland" and "saving the country is saving the religion" of the Cao Đài Minh Chơn Đạo resistance fighters, led by Cao Triều Phát. The battle dealt a powerful blow, slowing the advance of the French army and strongly encouraging the resistance movement of the people and army of the South in general, and the people and army of Bạc Liêu in particular. In particular, the Battle of Giồng Bốm affirmed the brilliant patriotism, unwavering will, and noble sacrifice of the Cao Đài Minh Chơn Đạo officials, officials, and followers, proving the truth that "the religion does not leave life," and exemplifying the spirit of unity between religious and secular communities in serving the Fatherland.

Speaking on behalf of the provincial leadership at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Vu Thang emphasized: Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Giong Bom Battle is an opportunity to foster pride in the heroic homeland of Ca Mau, strengthen the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement; and at the same time, highlight the need to continue preserving and promoting the historical value of the relic.
The comrade suggested that departments, agencies, and localities focus on restoring and expanding historical sites; improving connecting infrastructure; promoting the collection of documents, training tour guides, and applying digital technology in promotion. Preservation should be linked to the development of cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism and the effective implementation of gratitude and appreciation for those who have made contributions.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his confidence that the Party Committee, the government, the people, and the followers of all religions in the province will continue to unite and work together to build Ca Mau into a rapidly and sustainably developing province.
Prior to the commemoration ceremony, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai, along with other leaders and delegates, laid wreaths and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs.
