Previously, at km1726+630 National Highway 1 through Minh Tien village, Ham Minh commune (Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan ), there was also an incident where a driver of a passenger car was suspected of having a stroke and died. Thus, there have been consecutive stroke cases, alarming the increase in strokes in young people.

11-year-old girl saves younger brother's life thanks to first aid training

It is worth mentioning that the strokes all happened when many people witnessed them, but everyone was confused, lost their composure, and did not know how to handle it. The incident reminded the community of the story a month ago when an 11-year-old girl ( Hanoi ) saved her younger brother from drowning by performing CPR and artificial respiration techniques learned at school and watched on TV.

According to the girl, her 10-year-old brother was pulled ashore in an unconscious state, his body was purple and limp, so she put her ear to his chest and heard his heart still beating but weakly. Touching his nose, she felt his breathing was very weak. With the knowledge of first aid for drowning people provided by the school and watched on TV, she performed artificial respiration, chest compressions on him and felt a little water come out. After performing chest compressions twice, he weakly whispered: "Help". His sister continued chest compressions, he opened his eyes wide to look. Meanwhile, everyone supported and called an ambulance. When he was taken to the local hospital, realizing that the boy's condition was critical, they promptly transferred him to Bach Mai Hospital. The boy's health returned to normal a week later. Doctors said that this result was thanks to his sister's calmness and quick, correct first aid, not only helping the patient escape death but also not leaving any sequelae due to lack of oxygen in the brain.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Duy Ton, Director of the Stroke Center (Bach Mai Hospital), because stroke can be life-threatening and lead to permanent disability, it is important to act quickly. An ambulance should be called immediately, preferably 115. When calling 115, it is necessary to report a case of "stroke" so that emergency staff can prepare as best as possible and choose a hospital specializing in stroke treatment before transferring the patient. In addition, medical staff are equipped with enough knowledge to support saving the patient's life on the way to the hospital and are able to reduce the harmful effects of stroke. While waiting for the ambulance, first aid can be performed by placing the patient on their side, with the head elevated to increase blood flow to the brain, while avoiding saliva and sputum flowing back into the lungs. Do not move the patient if they fall; loosen the patient's clothing. In some cases, the patient may become unconscious during a stroke, and the person nearby needs to perform CPR and artificial respiration. This first aid can help the patient survive the critical condition while waiting for medical staff to arrive.

3 million people were informed about first aid

In order to enhance the role of first aid, since 2000, the International Federation of Red Cross has launched and chosen the second Saturday of September every year as World First Aid Day. Thereby, promoting the meaning, role and importance of first aid activities to society. In response, on September 7, in Vinh Yen City (Vinh Phuc), the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross (CTĐ) in coordination with the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province organized a ceremony to celebrate World First Aid Day 2023 with the theme "First aid in the digital world" and rehearsed first aid situations for road traffic accidents to emphasize the role of information technology and digital transformation in promoting, spreading, sharing, raising awareness, understanding and skills of people, communities and society in first aid activities.

Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that over the years, the Society has actively organized activities in response to World First Aid Day and identified that initial first aid has always been one of the important traditional activities and strengths of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. With the support of the Society, national societies in the movement and related units, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has been approved by the Ministry of Health and issued a set of first aid training documents for trainers, guides, volunteers and people in the community. Thereby, the Society at all levels has trained nearly 300 qualified first aid trainers and guides. This is a team of staff participating in training, equipping knowledge and first aid skills for volunteers working at over 500 first aid stations and points, and taxi drivers, motorbike taxi drivers, and those who regularly operate in areas where traffic accidents often occur, to be ready to support and help people when accidents occur. Organizing first aid training for students in schools and people living in areas with high risk of accidents such as along national highways, where storms, floods, landslides, and earthquakes often occur is also being promoted to build safe communities, capable of responding promptly in necessary situations.

At the ceremony, volunteers were instructed in first aid techniques, practiced first aid for road traffic accidents; organized first aid training courses for agencies, units, employees in enterprises... with the goal that everyone can give first aid, and first aid for everyone and everywhere. Experts affirmed that early first aid determines the life of victims, contributes to reducing risks, and creates a safe life for all people, especially vulnerable people in the community.
