When the village roads are as spacious as the streets

Roads that were once rough, dusty in the sun and muddy in the rain are now paved straight and clean, demonstrating the prosperity of the countryside on the journey of sustainable development. No longer a distant dream, asphalt roads are now present in remote areas, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people.

The movement to asphalt roads is changing the face of the countryside.

In Dan Hai commune (formerly Nghi Xuan district), after completing the asphalt paving of the main roads, local people proactively built green fences, planted shade trees and ornamental flowers, creating a fresh, neat and civilized rural landscape. Many roads have become common living spaces, where children play in the afternoon, the elderly take a walk, and women participate in sports .

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Head of Thong Nhat village, Dan Hai commune shared: "Previously, the village road was small and narrow, the road surface was bumpy, every time it rained, the road was muddy. Now there is an asphalt road, the car runs smoothly, going to the market, taking the children to school is very convenient. Every afternoon, the people in the village also go out to practice yoga, it is both healthy and fun".

The longest asphalted road in Dan Hai commune is Song Bien road, connecting Thong Nhat - Kieu Van villages, which is gradually being completed.

It is known that since the beginning of the year, in Dan Hai commune (merged from 4 communes of Dan Truong, Xuan Pho, Xuan Hai, Xuan Hoi), more than 14km of rural roads have been paved with asphalt. The longest route is Song Bien road, connecting Thong Nhat - Kieu Van villages, which has gradually been completed, contributing to building a new look for the village.

The new route not only serves transportation but also brings about a series of positive changes in the life and activities of the community. In some villages, the government and people have organized to renovate the sidewalks, install lighting, and place stone benches along the roads, turning the village roads into cultural spaces, connecting generations. These seemingly small actions have made the countryside of Ha Tinh more radiant and orderly.

After the merger, asphalt paving activities are still going strong.

Mr. Tran Ba Chau - Head of Economic Department (Dan Hai commune) said: “After the merger, the asphalt paving activities in the commune have been taking place vigorously, contributing to a clear change in the appearance of the countryside. Up to now, most of the old village and commune roads have been basically paved, creating convenience for people in their daily life and production. The capital mainly comes from public investment projects of the State, combined with the active contributions of the people, in which many households have voluntarily donated land to expand the roads. The asphalt paving movement has received the people's approval and strong support.”

In the coming time, Dan Hai commune is oriented to develop according to the criteria of an advanced new rural commune, gradually approaching urbanization, so asphalting roads is an inevitable trend. The commune will continue to mobilize resources to complete asphalting all inter-village roads, and upgrade main roads to serve the travel needs of the people, then deploy to roads serving production, especially aquaculture areas.

Asphalt roads in Mai Phu commune not only create landscape but also expand production and business opportunities in rural areas.

Along with the landscape, asphalt roads are also expanding production and business opportunities in rural areas. The more convenient transportation of agricultural products and goods helps many households boldly invest in machinery and expand their household economic models. Cooperatives and businesses can also easily access raw material areas, organize on-site purchasing, reduce intermediary costs, and increase the efficiency of the agricultural value chain.

For Mai Phu commune, identifying transportation as an important criterion with a pervasive effect in new rural construction, in recent times, the commune has focused resources on paving more than 11km of rural roads. The upgraded roads not only serve the needs of convenient travel and trade for the people, but also create highlights for model residential areas, contributing to improving the quality of the criteria for building advanced new rural areas.

“In the coming time, the commune will continue to effectively mobilize resources from budgets at all levels and promote socialization, striving to asphalt all village and inter-village roads. At the same time, gradually upgrade roads serving production and trade in a sustainable and environmentally friendly direction. The goal is to build a bright - green - clean - beautiful rural space, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people", said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bac - Vice Chairman of Mai Phu Commune People's Committee.

Since the beginning of the year, Duc Minh commune has paved 14.5km of rural roads, mainly in Ben Hau and Kim Ma villages and some main inter-village and inter-hamlet routes. Investing in traffic infrastructure not only helps people travel more conveniently and safely during the rainy season but also contributes to changing the appearance of the countryside, creating conditions for local socio-economic development. People are excited that the muddy dirt roads of the past have now been replaced by clean and spacious roads.

Asphalt paving of village roads in Duc Minh commune helps improve people's lives.

“Previously, the roads in the village were mainly degraded and narrow concrete roads; dusty in the dry season and muddy in the rainy season, making it very difficult for people to travel and transport goods. Now, with the support of the State, people have also voluntarily contributed labor and materials, so we can build asphalt roads like this. People are very excited, everyone is conscious of preserving them," said Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha - Secretary of the Party Cell of Ben Hau village.

It can be said that asphalt roads are not only simple traffic infrastructure, but also a premise for development. From the quality of life, environmental landscape to community activities, spiritual life, all are gradually improving with clean, beautiful and sustainable roads. It is also a vivid proof of the effectiveness of the advanced new rural construction program in Ha Tinh, where the policy is realized through specific works, close to the people, for the people.

New rural roads contribute to improving the quality of rural life.

The whole province currently has nearly 13,000km of rural roads, including: 2,300km of communal roads after the merger, 1,200km of urban roads and about 9,500km of rural roads of all kinds.
From 2021 to 2025, the province has focused on investing in cement concrete. In the coming years, it will switch to asphalt concrete or apply higher quality materials to strengthen the structure and improve traffic criteria in new rural construction in the province. This phase will prioritize synchronization and sustainability according to national criteria on new rural traffic.
In the period 2026-2030, the Department will coordinate with the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office and sectors and localities to advise and develop policies to support road upgrading and restoration.
