(Dan Tri) - Analysis based on artificial intelligence (AI) shows that US Vice President Kamala Harris could win a narrow victory in this year's election, defeating Republican candidate Donald Trump.

British betting company Bonus Code Bets asked ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI, to predict which candidate would win each state based on public polling information, demographics, and election history. ChatGPT predicted that Harris would win the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada, but lose in Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. Harris is predicted to win a narrow 276 electoral votes, while former President Donald Trump has 262. Recent polls suggest this year's election will be a close one. According to FiveThirtyEight, Harris won 48.1% of the popular vote, while Trump won 46.7%. However, due to the Electoral College system, a candidate can win more popular votes but not be elected. For example, in 2016, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton had more popular votes, but Mr. Trump won because he had more electoral votes. Electoral map predicted by AI (Photo: Newsweek). For the analysis, Bonus Code Bets asked ChatGPT to "predict how each state will vote in the 2024 presidential election, using all available information including voting information, demographics, as well as looking at previous results and relevant events in the state during the current campaign." According to ChatGPT, Ms. Harris would win by 14 electoral votes over Mr. Trump, making this year's election the third-closest in history, after Rutherford B. Hayes' 1876 victory (by 1 vote) and George W. Bush's 2000 victory (by 5 votes). However, ChatGPT pointed out that if Mr. Trump won Pennsylvania or Michigan, two states with 19 and 15 electoral votes respectively, he could win. "For years, polls have been used to predict election outcomes, but new technology offers new ways to predict," a Bonus Code Bets spokesperson told Newsweek . Bonus Code Bets highlighted the importance of big cities to a potential Harris victory in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. "In Michigan, while Trump is likely to hold Republican-strong rural areas, ChatGPT still predicts a Harris win thanks to key Democratic strongholds in cities like Detroit and Ann Arbor," the company said. "Similarly, Pennsylvania is trending toward Harris despite Trump's support in the beltway, thanks to votes from big cities like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia," Bonus Code Bets said.
