AI becomes the central driving force of sustainable economic development

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the main driving forces behind digital transformation and global economic development, including Vietnam. The development of AI has enhanced the competitiveness of the economy, opening up opportunities for innovation in production, services and social management.

On June 12, in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), held the Launching Ceremony of the Report "Vietnam's AI Economy 2025".

The program is organized to provide a comprehensive picture of the potential, trends and development orientation of AI in Vietnam within the framework of implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The program takes place both in-person and online.

According to statistics, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a central driving force of this revolution, with a forecast scale of contributing up to 5 trillion USD to the global economy by 2030 alone, according to a report by IDC - IDICO Corporation, formerly the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Park Development Investment Corporation.

Faced with this historic opportunity, Vietnam is determined not only to participate, but also to establish a solid position in this key field, through proactively promoting extensive cooperation with the world's leading countries, economies and technology corporations.

Vietnam determined to establish a key position in innovation

Recently, the Party and State of Vietnam have had many important policies and decisions, such as Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, Resolution 68 on private economic development of the Politburo, Resolution 193 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of special mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, etc.

Within the framework of the announcement of the Report “Vietnam’s AI Economy 2025”, the Organizing Committee also organized in-depth discussion sessions with the participation of leading experts from management agencies, research institutes, enterprises and international organizations, to discuss technology trends, policy mechanisms, and effective AI application models.

The program is not only an opportunity to announce research results and in-depth analysis on trends and prospects of the AI ​​economy, but also an important forum for startups, technology corporations and young experts to share solutions, expand cooperation opportunities, and promote the development of high-quality human resources in the field of AI.

With practical activities, the organizers hope to contribute to building a strong innovation ecosystem, creating momentum for the sustainable development of AI technology in Vietnam, towards the goal of comprehensive digital transformation, promoting socio-economic growth in the next period.

Within the framework of this cooperation program, the National Innovation Center (NIC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have coordinated to develop a report based on practical implementation experience, while connecting management agencies, researchers and the business community to comprehensively and practically reflect the AI ​​market in Vietnam.

Accordingly, the National Innovation Center (NIC) plays a role in providing domestic practical perspectives, especially from the AI ​​innovation ecosystem; JICA brings an international perspective based on experience in implementing AI projects in many countries; and BCG, as a professional partner, contributes in-depth analysis and global experience to complete the overview report on the AI ​​economy in Vietnam.

In his opening speech, Director of the National Innovation Center Vu Quoc Huy affirmed that Vietnam is entering a particularly important transition period, in the context of the 4th industrial revolution taking place strongly with new breakthroughs in strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, renewable energy and big data, which are reshaping the global value chain and changing the structure of economies.

According to Director Vu Quoc Huy, to realize the Party and State's policies on science, technology and innovation development, under the strong direction of the Ministry of Finance, the National Innovation Center has coordinated with JICA to develop the Report "Vietnam's AI Economy 2025".

“This is the first document to provide a comprehensive picture of the AI ​​economy in Vietnam, providing some international experiences and lessons for AI development and analyzing opportunities in key economic sectors, proposing development pillars for the AI ​​economy. We hope this will be a useful reference document, helping central and local state management agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals build roadmaps, plans and solutions for development, as well as application of AI technology,” Mr. Vu Quoc Huy emphasized.

Director Vu Quoc Huy expressed his hope that JICA and Japanese partners will continue to accompany the National Innovation Center in developing an innovation ecosystem, especially high-quality human resources and incubating and accelerating the development of Vietnamese startups in the field of artificial intelligence. At the same time, he expressed his belief that with a young, dynamic, technology-savvy workforce and a thirst for innovation and creativity, Vietnam is ready for the journey to become a center for research, development and application of AI in the region and the world.

Vietnam aims for sustainable growth of AI ecosystem

Also speaking at the program, Mr. Kubo Yoshitomo, Senior Representative of JICA in Vietnam, commented that with global cooperation to accelerate capacity, Vietnam is expected to emerge as an innovative country in the region. By promoting extensive cooperation and synergy, Vietnam can transform AI from a short-term initiative to a sustainable and long-term development driver for innovation and strong economic growth in the new era.

Sharing more about the report, Mr. Do Tien Thinh, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center, said that this report is the result of the efforts of the parties to provide an overview of Vietnam's AI economy in 2025. Accordingly, it mentions the important role of AI in Vietnam's national agenda, provides an overview of the current picture of the AI ​​economy in Vietnam as well as proposes strategies on development pillars for Vietnam's AI economy.

Notably, with the conclusion on the vision for Vietnam's AI Ecosystem towards strong and sustainable growth, Deputy Director Do Tien Thinh once again affirmed that, in the coming time, Vietnam's AI economy is standing on the threshold of a new era of growth, where close and synchronous coordination between the government, businesses, educational and training institutions, international partners and people will promote innovation on a large scale.

AI companies/organizations, working together with infrastructure providers, will pioneer new applications and support national transformation. Policymakers will develop strategic regulations and incentives, while human resource training and research and development (R&D) organizations will drive progress with highly innovative and applied AI research.

In the near future, the National Innovation Center (NIC) will work with the Japan International Cooperation Agency's Digital Development Laboratory (JICA DXLab) to implement the "AI Startup Acceleration Program in Vietnam" to support early-stage startups to improve their capacity, access the market, attract investment, and gradually build internal strength for the AI ​​innovation ecosystem in Vietnam.

On this occasion, the exhibition area also displayed typical AI solutions in many fields such as manufacturing, education, finance and smart cities, thereby introducing technologies and application models being deployed in Vietnam and Japan.
