According to Mr. Hung Tran, AI is developing rapidly and has a profound impact on life. “Software engineering used to be a very hot profession. Now many graduates cannot find a job because AI does it much better. Or like in Silicon Valley, startups want to raise capital but if AI is not an important component in their business plan or product, investors will never invest,” Mr. Hung cited as an example.

The importance of AI is no longer in doubt, however, to become a “player in the AI field”, it is necessary to have good people, a lot of data and computing infrastructure. “Currently, Vietnam does not have all three of those factors. But we still have to go,” Mr. Hung emphasized.

To participate in the AI game when he is "poor", Mr. Hung Tran has proposed a 3-step approach so that Vietnam "can still take advantage of AI, can still participate in the game".

Accordingly, the first step is to encourage the entire population to use AI for all daily tasks to improve labor productivity, so that "each person in one working hour creates results equal to 10 working hours as before AI", creating value, and providing resources to carry out the following steps. In addition to improving labor productivity, regular use of AI also helps create a lot of data, which is useful for the following development steps. In addition, using AI every day and turning AI into an effective tool will help change the mindset of the entire population about AI.

The second step is to start researching and developing, building AI products Made in Vietnam. “If step one is completed, step two will be very easy,” Mr. Hung affirmed.

According to Mr. Hung, in the process of implementing step two, in addition to product development, it is necessary to attract foreign technology companies and corporations to invest in this field in Vietnam. “Recent changes in immigration policy (US H-1B policy, increasing visa fees for foreign workers to 100,000 USD/person) force large companies to build centers abroad for engineers to work. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnam to attract such companies and it is these companies that will help train Vietnam's AI technology workforce,” Mr. Hung said.

The third step is to build an ecosystem of AI companies and AI products to help Vietnamese AI go out into the world .

Recently, Mr. Hung Tran and his Vietnamese colleagues working in Silicon Valley established the organization "AI for Vietnam" with the goal of implementing the ViGen project - creating comprehensive and high-quality open-source Vietnamese data sets, helping AI deeply understand the characteristics of Vietnamese language and culture. From there, promote the widespread application of AI in Vietnam, taking advantage of the opportunity to turn AI into a tool for economic development, creating national competitive advantages.
