Ho Chi Minh City accelerates building a scientific and innovative ecosystem

DNVN - Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a "Science City", promoting the building of an innovation ecosystem through cooperation between the High-Tech Park and large corporations such as Becamex.

On November 21, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc chaired a working session with Becamex Group and the Management Board of High-Tech Park (SHTP) to discuss cooperation plans and orientations for developing the city's science , technology and innovation ecosystem.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Ky Phung - Head of SHTP said that the unit has submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee the Strategy for the development of high-tech parks (KCNC), orienting the transformation from an industrial production model to research and development of technology, start-ups and innovation, in line with the trend of the city. Currently, SHTP is closely coordinating with universities, along with many affiliated units such as the R&D Center specializing in semiconductor microchips, the High-tech Business Incubator and the Biotechnology Center, which has invested in modern facilities and is a strong research hub of the city.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ky Phung, Becamex has a wide range of activities and can cooperate with SHTP to develop the hi-tech park according to the innovative ecosystem model. Becamex owns a large land fund, the capacity to implement industrial and urban projects, and a smart service ecosystem (Smart City), which can support the expansion of the hi-tech park space and attract high-tech investors.

Proposing a cooperation plan, Mr. Nguyen Ky Phung outlined three strategic pillars: creating an innovation ecosystem associated with infrastructure development; synchronizing preferential policies to promote investment; developing human resources for science, technology and innovation. He also recommended establishing a Working Group to develop a detailed plan.
Providing more information at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex Group said that Becamex currently has more than 1,000 hectares of land that has been compensated and cleared, ready to invest in infrastructure. Becamex orients Ho Chi Minh City into 3 development zones, in which the North - Northwest region (old Binh Duong region) will connect with Tay Ninh and Dong Nai provinces. Becamex has proposed investing in a railway system combined with the development of new generation industrial parks and logistics, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the implementation of the city's double-digit growth target.
Concluding the working session, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc requested Becamex and SHTP to closely coordinate and take advantage of their strengths to call for investment to effectively implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.
"Ho Chi Minh City has many advantages in terms of land and high-quality human resources, along with the trust of foreign investors in the high-tech sector. This is a favorable time to promote cooperation, build the city into a true "Science City", forming a science - technology - innovation ecosystem, serving research, application and commercialization of scientific ideas", Mr. Duoc emphasized.
