Bringing spring to Hon Chuoi Island
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lam Van Bi extends New Year greetings to officers, soldiers, and people of Hon Chuoi Island.
Located in Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district, Hon Chuoi Island covers an area of approximately 7 km² , boasting a diverse and rich ecosystem, largely composed of natural primary forest, primarily consisting of large timber trees such as Dipterocarpus, Shorea, and Dalbergia, along with shrubs and vines. During the dry season, this vegetation is highly susceptible to fire. Therefore, fire prevention and control on the island is strictly and rigorously implemented by the forces stationed there and the local population. These forces regularly patrol and monitor the forest area, especially during the dry season, to detect and promptly address any violations of fire prevention and control regulations.

Lieutenant Colonel Doan Cong Nghiep, Commander of Hon Chuoi Border Guard Station, said: “The unit has effectively carried out fire prevention and control work, maintaining constant readiness and closely coordinating with other forces and local people on the island. As a result, the people have also raised their awareness of fire prevention and control, preparing local forces and equipment in case of emergencies, resolutely ensuring absolute safety and preventing any fires from occurring during the dry season.”

In addition, the forces on the island prioritize propaganda and education on fire prevention and control. Functional forces regularly organize awareness campaigns on fire prevention and control for the island's residents, especially fishermen temporarily staying there.
Simultaneously, in areas along trails and access points to the forest, the authorities have placed signs prohibiting fires and fire safety regulations to warn and educate the public.
Because of the dense forest surrounding residential areas on the island, fire awareness and warnings are always a priority.
Authorities regularly patrol and monitor the forest during the dry season.
Warning signs are placed along the paths and entrances into the forest.
Mr. Le Van Phuong, a resident of Hon Chuoi Island, shared: "Almost every year, during the dry season, the border guards remind the people about fire prevention and control, carefully instructing them on the safe use of fire when entering the forest. In general, the people on our island are very aware of these issues and comply well."
Thanks to the synchronized and effective implementation of forest fire prevention and control measures, the forests on Hon Chuoi Island are kept safe. The joint efforts and coordinated, effective cooperation between all levels of government, functional forces, and the people on the island are a solid foundation for preserving the greenness of the forest; thereby contributing to the protection of forest resources and the ecosystem on the island.
