With the power to spread quickly and widely among the public, music has always accompanied the country in every historical journey. In the vast space of culture and art, music has always been a source of nourishment for the soul, arousing the aspirations and pride of the Vietnamese people.

Music always accompanies the country in every stage of history.
Music always accompanies the country in every stage of history.

Along with the nation

According to musician Hoang Loc - Head of the Vietnam Musicians Association in the province, Vinh Long is a land of history and also full of homeland melodies, flowing with the flow of Southern music for a long time. From Dinh Vien - Cuu Long - Vinh Long, through many ups and downs, the names of lands and villages that have glorified the homeland have been recorded and passed down through many generations with heroic rhythms, with passionate tones, with simple and familiar lyrics.

Through two long resistance wars, the whole country in general and the army and people of the province in particular, despite hardships and sacrifices, the flame of music continued to burn and spread throughout the war zones, fostering the fighting spirit of those who sacrificed themselves for their homeland.

Musician Hoang Loc said that the revolutionary soldiers had never studied formally in school, only learned a few notes of music as students, yet their worries and dreams turned into heroic melodies, echoing along the troop boat, rumbling along each step of the march, seething with the atmosphere in the prison, contributing significantly to the victory of the army and people of the province.

Musicians Ta Thanh Son, Nguyen Minh Triet, Huynh Anh Kiet, Kien Tam... with their sharp pens, encouraged the spirit of determination to fight and win of our compatriots and comrades. Even now, the call still echoes, the red flag with yellow star and the victorious army can still be seen in songs that have touched people's hearts such as: "Southern Resistance", "Vietnamese Cavalry", "Tieng Bom Luu Van Liet", "Ve Vinh Long"...

From those people, those works have created the premise for the next generation to continue to inherit, constantly practice and cultivate to create valuable musical works for the province.

Mr. Tran Thanh Son - Chairman of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association shared: In the field of music, many musicians of the province have made many contributions to the music of their homeland and country, with 117 musicians being members of the central association and local association. The contributions of generations of musicians of the homeland to Vietnamese music, to the resistance war and to the construction of the homeland are not only musical values but also cultural and ideological values.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2nd), music played a large role on stages in celebrations across the country, on radio and television. This demonstrates how important Vietnam’s musical life is in the overall picture. Music has become the thread connecting millions of hearts, stirring up the national spirit and spreading the country’s image to all five continents.

Musical heritage connects generations

September 3, 1960 was the day Uncle Ho conducted the choir and the masses to sing the song "Solidarity" at Hanoi Botanical Park, on the occasion of welcoming the 3rd Party Congress in 1960. From that meaningful event, the Prime Minister agreed to the proposal of the Vietnam Musicians Association to take September 3 every year as Vietnam Music Day.

Since 2010, Vietnam Music Day has contributed to honoring the great contributions of artists in developing revolutionary music in life, encouraging the creation of many good works, rich in humanity to serve the public. Through 16 seasons, Vietnam Music Day is an opportunity for artists to exchange, introduce new works and share the fruits of artistic labor. After the merger, the provincial artists' team has gathered many talents, bringing diverse colors, full of emotions through each rhythm, each melody.

Let us respectfully honor the authors and works that have devoted all their passion and talent to contribute, so that each melody and each lyric becomes the voice of love for the homeland, of faith and strength of Vietnam.

When hearing about the heroic action of Ho Thi Nham, who single-handedly cleared mines to attack the enemy’s stronghold, musician Huynh Thanh Hai was moved and wrote the song “Ho Thi Nham lives forever”. This song has been played at many music events in Tra Vinh, a symphony of gratitude to the heroic spirit of the nation, a living testament to the truth that brave actions never fade over time.

It is impossible not to mention musician Lan Phong - who used to be a musician and composer for the Liberation Art Troupe of Ben Tre Province (formerly), and once held the role of Director of the Provincial Cultural Center. After more than half a century of composing, he left behind more than 100 works, including many songs imbued with the love of the river countryside. One of his memorable works is the song "Thuong Lam Ham Luong". Musician Lan Phong painted the image of a beloved river carrying fresh alluvium, evoking many memories and pride in the homeland.

Musician Hoang Loc hopes that with the attention to implementing well the policies on treating artists according to the Party and State's policies; the good direction and coordination, with a high sense of responsibility between the Literature and Arts Association and professional agencies, the best conditions will be created for the province's musical works to be promoted more widely, reaching more audiences. From there, it will create motivation for the province's musical team to work more enthusiastically and dynamically. Although there are still many difficulties, he believes that the province's musical activities will be even better, creating valuable works, accompanying the flow of Vietnamese music.

Music, since time immemorial, has always been the language of the soul, able to reach deep into the human heart. Music is also a product with soft power that conquers the emotions of millions of people with its noble beauty, creating spiritual values.
