Amazon has announced that Jennifer Salke will be leaving her position as head of Amazon MGM Studios, a move that is seen as a sign of senior leadership dissatisfaction with the company's streaming strategy in recent years.

However, Mike Hopkins, head of Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, said Salke’s departure was an opportunity to streamline the leadership team, rather than find a replacement. Accordingly, the heads of film and television will report directly to Hopkins. However, many sources said that Amazon has had difficulty developing its streaming business under Salke.
Previously an executive at NBC, Salke joined Amazon Studios in 2018, as the company looked to expand beyond critically acclaimed movies and shows into more mainstream hits.
Since then, the streaming service has had some success, betting big on blockbusters like "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and "Citadel," which failed to deliver despite budgets of more than $1 billion.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is an American fantasy television series developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay for the streaming service Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon has also struggled to get another James Bond film into production, following its acquisition of MGM in 2022. However, the production of a new James Bond film has also encountered many obstacles, due to disagreements between Amazon and longtime producers.
It is even reported that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was angry at the criticism of producer Barbara Broccoli.
“ I don’t care what we do, just get rid of her ,” he declared, after which the company paid Wilson and Broccoli to relinquish control. Salke’s name was conspicuously absent from Amazon’s announcement of the Bond deal.
It is known that Ms. Salke will establish her own film and television production company, with a priority agreement to cooperate with Amazon.
