“Who did it and why will be investigated,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said in an interview with New Delhi Television.
According to AP, the explanation was given as authorities were still trying to clear the wreckage from two passenger trains that derailed on the evening of June 2, after one of the two trains crashed into another freight train in Balasore district of Odisha state, eastern India.

Current statistics show that more than 300 people have died in the incident, while at least more than 800 people were injured. This is considered the most serious railway disaster in decades in India.
Preliminary investigations earlier indicated that instead of passenger train 12841 Coromandel Express travelling straight on one of the two main tracks, while another passenger train was also travelling smoothly on the other main track, train 12841 Coromandel Express suddenly veered onto the upper loop track and collided head-on with a freight train.
12841 Coromandel Express suffered a serious accident, some of its carriages also flew onto the remaining main track and derailed some of the last carriages of the passenger train on the other main track.
The passenger trains carried a total of 2,296 passengers.
Freight trains often stop on the loop tracks to get out of the way when passenger trains cross the main tracks.
