I am Dang Huy Hau. |
Hau's passion for Informatics began in first and second grade when he was exposed to computers to solve math problems online. In third grade, Informatics opened up a fascinating world with interesting programming languages. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Phuong - Hau's mother, said that since he was young, because his wife and he were busy all day in the scrap business; Hau's older brother also studied at a university in Hanoi, Hau had to take care of his own education. When they knew that their son loved Informatics, and also to make it easier for him to solve math problems online, his parents took advantage of an old scrap computer and asked someone to fix it for him to study. With that rudimentary computer, Hau took his first steps in programming, passionately researched and then designed simple games to both play and learn.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia, Hau's primary school IT teacher, emotionally recalled: "When I discovered Hau's talent, right from the beginning of grade 4, I started to nurture him in this IT subject. Also in that school year, although he was a very good student, when he took the exam, Hau only passed the district level exam. He was not discouraged, he was determined to study and won the provincial exam that year. In the following school years, when the exams were near, my teacher and I studied together. What impressed me most about this little student was his diligence, love of learning, emotional life and especially his intelligence."
In secondary school, Hau's outstanding talent continued to be discovered by Mr. Nguyen Van Trong, an IT teacher at Tan Hoi Secondary School. Realizing Hau's potential, Mr. Trong convinced the Board of Directors of Tan Hoi Secondary School to write a letter asking for support from Thang Long Specialized High School. This was an important turning point, when Hau was directly trained online by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Head of the IT Department of Thang Long Specialized High School. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said: "Although this form of study has many difficulties, Hau studies very seriously and learns quickly. When Hau entered high school, passed the entrance exam to Thang Long Specialized School, and joined the school's IT team, I continued to train him and today's achievements are thanks to his self-study ability and determination."
Since middle school, Hau has studied a series of specialized IT knowledge in high school, and in grade 9, he even participated in the National Informatics Olympiad for non-specialized high school students and won second prize.
Hau's journey to conquer the IT awards started early and impressively: 2019-2020 school year: Second prize in Lam Dong Youth IT Competition; 2020-2021 school year: First prize in the 5th Duc Trong District Youth IT Competition and Second prize in Lam Dong Province Youth IT Competition; 2021-2022 school year: First prize in the Central Highlands - Central Region Informatics Olympiad. Hau also won the First Prize in the National Youth IT Competition when he was still an elementary school student.
Notably, at the age of 15, as a 10th grader, Dang Huy Hau became the valedictorian of the National Excellent Student Competition in Informatics with 25.25/40 points. "Being first prize was already very happy, but I was extremely surprised to have the highest score in the country," Hau shared. Not stopping there, Hau excellently won the Silver medal at the 19th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) hosted by Uzbekistan. This achievement not only affirmed Hau's individual talent but also contributed significantly to the total of 6 medals of the Vietnamese team, helping our country rank 5th overall, just behind technology powerhouses such as China, Russia, Japan and Korea. The Ministry of Education and Training especially praised Dang Huy Hau for his "very unique solution" and achieving the maximum score in a test with only 4 lines of code, which greatly surprised the judges.
For Dang Huy Hau, the recent achievement of being the top student at the national level and the APIO medal is a great encouragement and in the upcoming journey, he will have to try even harder. Currently, Hau is studying to prepare for the International Informatics Exam in Bolivia, scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 3.
