Doctor Cao Khanh Linh (Department of Internal Medicine, Ba Ria Hospital) said that at noon on May 27, 4 patients were admitted to the hospital in a state of drowsiness, vomiting, acute diarrhea, and many other symptoms.
After receiving initial emergency treatment from doctors, two cases of severe poisoning were transferred to Ho Chi Minh City by their families. The remaining two patients were given activated charcoal, IV fluids, and special anti-poisoning drugs by doctors at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department (Ba Ria Hospital).
On May 28, the two patients recovered and were transferred to the General Internal Medicine Department for further monitoring and treatment.
Patient PTKT (46 years old, living in Long Dien district) said that around 10am on May 27, he went to a place in the district to eat. "Someone brought mushrooms, saying they were picked from the mountains. Everyone worked together to prepare mushrooms for lunch. Only 4 people ate the mushrooms, and a few minutes later, everyone felt tired and had severe stomachaches. As for me, right after eating the mushrooms, my eyes were tired, and then my whole face felt sore, had stomachaches, and had diarrhea continuously," patient T. said.
Doctor Cao Khanh Linh warns that at the beginning of the rainy season, many strange mushrooms appear everywhere. People should not eat mushrooms that they cannot distinguish whether they are poisonous or beneficial. If after eating mushrooms, they feel stomachache or vomit, they should quickly go to a medical facility for proper treatment.
