The family is the cell of society, where each person's personality is nurtured and formed. Therefore, building a prosperous, equal, progressive and happy family is a contribution to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Honoring the Vietnamese family
During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always emphasized the role of family in the overall development of society. He affirmed: Many families together make up a society, the better the society, the better the family, the better the family, the better the society. The nucleus of society is the family.
Because of the importance of family in realizing social progress and justice, on May 4, 2001, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 72/2001/QD-TTg, choosing June 28 every year as Vietnamese Family Day to promote the leadership responsibility of sectors, levels, unions and social organizations, and all families to regularly pay attention to building prosperous, equal, progressive and happy families; promote the protection, care andeducation of children, contributing to building and defending the Fatherland.
After 24 years of implementation, Vietnamese Family Day (June 28) has become a traditional day for families, honoring the Vietnamese family. This occasion is also to remind every Vietnamese person, no matter where they go, what they do, or where they are, to always turn to their family, ancestors, and roots. That is the core value of national culture that has been cultivated for thousands of years.
Ms. Hoang Dieu Hang (Vietnamese Australian) shared that Vietnamese Family Day is an opportunity for her to express her feelings and thoughts towards her relatives and family in the country. Mr. Nguyen Van Long (Me Tri ward, Nam Tu Liem district) said that Family Day is a reminder for each person and the whole society about their responsibilities through practical actions such as caring for the elderly and spending time loving children.
According to Dr. Nguyen Viet Chuc, former Director of Thang Long Culture Institute, family is not only a place where each person lives, connects, loves, and shares, but also a warm home to develop personality, a spiritual support when we encounter difficulties. Therefore, Vietnamese Family Day is not only a simple commemorative occasion but also an opportunity for each person to look back on the past, to cherish and love family members more, and to remember their roots. This is also an opportunity for each person to adjust their attitude and behavior towards relatives to be more connected, loving and sharing.
Diversified response activities
On the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day 2025, many meaningful and attractive activities took place across the country. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, many localities have organized enthusiastic response activities. Typically, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City organized propaganda to prevent and combat domestic violence and build happy families.
In Hanoi, on June 26, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports organized a ceremony to honor outstanding cultural families and display and exhibit activities on the theme of family. The families honored are exemplary families who have well implemented the Party's policies and the State's laws, actively participated in local emulation movements, built a cultural life, maintained security and order, etc.
To contribute to the exchange between ethnic groups and community cohesion, the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village (Son Tay town) organized an Action Month with the theme "Cultural traditions of Vietnamese ethnic families". Many activities introducing the culture and customs of ethnic groups were introduced in June to encourage and motivate families to build prosperous, equal, progressive and happy families, contributing to the effective implementation of the construction and completion of "cultural values, national values, family values and Vietnamese human values in the new situation".
This year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the "Vietnam Family Day 2025" from June 25 to 30 in Dak Lak province with the participation of many provinces and cities. The event had many exciting and attractive activities such as: Photo exhibition "President Ho Chi Minh and Party and State leaders care for, build and develop Vietnamese families"; thematic exhibition "Family culture in the community of Vietnamese ethnic groups", "Family culture of the ethnic communities in the Central Highlands"...
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, Vietnamese Family Day is increasingly spreading widely, contributing to honoring the nation's fine traditional cultural values.
“Many activities organized on Family Day have created a ripple effect on the ethical standards and traditional values of Vietnamese families. Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and promoting positive changes in the actions of all levels, sectors and the whole society in building prosperous, equal, progressive and happy families in the new era,” said Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy.
