"Food for the soul"

In keeping with the celebratory atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Quyet Thang Kindergarten in Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang district) recently organized a meaningful and solemn activity to commemorate the great victory of Spring 1975.

At the ceremony, the children and their teachers reenacted a historic moment in the nation's history, playing the roles of armed forces, militia, workers, and courageous youth who marched into Saigon to take control. This was followed by a parade showcasing the strength of the future generation. The atmosphere of the ceremony was heroic and solemn, witnessed by numerous delegates and parents.

To conclude the program, the school's management organized a "Unity Meal - Bonding Through Love" with the participation of over 200 children from 4 grade levels. The children enjoyed a variety of dishes prepared by the school's chefs and teachers.

Nearly 1,000 students at Thanh Mien Town Primary School formed a human lettering sign to celebrate the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.

"We are delighted that the school organized meaningful activities that allowed our children to immerse themselves in this sacred moment for the nation. Through these activities, the children gained a better understanding of the struggle for national liberation and the heroic sacrifices of previous generations. This further fostered their love for their homeland," said parent Vu Thi Hoai Thu.

Every year on April 30th, the head of Thanh Mien Town Primary School organizes activities commemorating the National Reunification Day. This year marks half a century since liberation, and the event was organized on a larger scale. The entire schoolyard was dyed red by students' uniforms printed with the national flag. Nearly 1,000 students from five grade levels lined up neatly and attentively, listening to the historical significance of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. In particular, to the tune of the song "As if Uncle Ho were present on the day of great victory," the students also formed the words "30 - 4" and "I love Vietnam."

"The activities commemorating the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country have become a source of spiritual nourishment for students every April 30th. Through these activities, we hope to give them more strength to excel in their studies and take control of their future. This is an opportunity to educate students about patriotism," said Ms. Vu Thi Hoai Huong, Principal of Thanh Mien Town Primary School.

Returning to our roots

Every year on April 30th, many people still consider it the National Reunification Day. During this time, many families often organize reunion meals. In a warm atmosphere, everyone enjoys traditional dishes together and shares feelings, memories, and strengthens family bonds.

Nguyen Van Truc (30 years old) from Ninh Giang district said that his grandfather died in the South Central battlefield and his grave has not yet been found. Every year, in addition to the anniversary of his grandfather's death and the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs, his family also prepares a meal on April 30th to express gratitude and remember the previous generation. The meal is not only a place for family reunion but also reminds each member of the value of peace.

"Over the years, my family has always strived to preserve traditional customs for our descendants to follow. On this day, we usually go to the cemetery to light incense for the martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation and reunification. At noon, family members will prepare a meal to offer to our ancestors and celebrate National Reunification Day," Mr. Truc shared.

The Lunar New Year, marking the reunification of Vietnam, is an opportunity for people to set aside the hustle and bustle of life and return to their families. At the end of April, Mr. Pham Duc Phuc from Ky Son commune (Tu Ky district) traveled thousands of kilometers from Japan to return to his hometown just in time for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam. On this momentous day for the nation, he and his family held a reunion meal after so many years apart.

According to Mr. Phuc, his hometown has always been a source of spiritual support, giving him the strength to strive in his work. This return home was even more meaningful as it coincided with a major national holiday. Mr. Phuc and his family watched the parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country on television and shared a reunion meal together, filled with national pride.
