Ancelotti has committed to leading the Brazilian national team until the 2030 World Cup. |
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed the extension of coach Carlo Ancelotti's contract until the 2030 World Cup. The new agreement was announced on May 15th, just days before the Italian strategist announced the Brazilian squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Ancelotti took over the Brazilian national team in May 2025 after leaving Real Madrid. In his first year leading the Selecao, he faced considerable pressure as the team experienced constant squad changes due to injuries and failed to establish a stable core team.
Nevertheless, the CBF decided to place its long-term trust in the 66-year-old coach. In a video posted on the federation's website, Ancelotti expressed his emotion at continuing his journey with the most successful team in World Cup history.
“I came to Brazil a year ago and immediately understood how much football means to this country. We have worked hard to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world . But everyone still wants more,” Ancelotti shared.
He added: “We are very happy to continue together for another four years and look forward to the 2030 World Cup. I thank the CBF for their trust, and I also thank the Brazilian fans for their welcome and affection.”
CBF President Samir Xaud called retaining Ancelotti a "historic day" for Brazilian football. He believes this is a crucial step in the plan to build a modern, highly competitive Brazilian national team capable of returning to the top of the world.
Since taking over as Brazil's coach, Ancelotti has recorded 5 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses in 10 matches. This statistic is not yet convincing enough for Samba fans, especially given the doubts surrounding Brazil's ability to compete for the 2026 World Cup title.
At the tournament taking place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer, Brazil is in Group C along with Scotland, Morocco, and Haiti. Ancelotti is expected to help the Seleção end their World Cup drought, which has lasted since 2002.
