[Photo] Cuban artists bring a "feast" of classic excerpts from world ballet to Vietnam

On June 26 and 29, the National Ballet of Cuba (Ballet Nacional de Cuba) will perform on the stage of the Hoan Kiem Theater. This is a rare opportunity for art lovers to witness the unique fusion between Cuba's cultural heritage and classic works of world ballet.

Founded in 1948 by legendary ballerinas Alicia Alonso, Fernando Alonso and Alberto Alonso, in over 75 years of operation, the Company has toured on prestigious stages around the world, bringing home many prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris or the "Félix Varela" Medal of the Republic of Cuba.

Alicia Alonso (1920-2019) is a world ballet legend and cultural icon of the island nation of Cuba. By skillfully combining classical technique with the strength and spirit typical of the people of the "heroic island", she created a unique Cuban ballet style and contributed to shaping the world ballet art.

Today, Ballet Nacional de Cuba continues to maintain and develop an artistic approach that respects tradition under the leadership of artist Viengsay Valdés in his role as Artistic Director and "Prima bailarina" of the Troupe (a term referring to the main female dancer in an art troupe - Editor's note).

Born in the Cuban capital of Havana, Viengsay Valdés began her dance studies at the "Alejo Carpentier" Ballet Elementary School and graduated with honors in 1994. Soon after, she joined the national dance company, and became Primera bailarina in 2001.

With more than 30 years of dedication to the art of ballet, winning a series of large and small awards at home and abroad, Viengsay Valdés is the embodiment of the combination of skillful techniques, contributing to bringing Cuban dance art to the international level.

Returning to the National Ballet of Cuba, with its recognition as a National Cultural Heritage, the Company has continued its mission of preserving and developing ballet art, bringing the audience unique works and memorable artistic experiences through each performance.
