The construction materials market in Ha Tinh has recently recorded clear fluctuations in prices, especially for terracotta bricks. In the context of the sharp increase in demand for home repair and construction after two major storms, many factories in the province have simultaneously adjusted the selling price of bricks by 10% - 20% depending on the type. This price increase has led to a significant increase in civil construction costs, creating an additional burden for people, especially those who are overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
According to Phu Hung Tuynel Brick Factory (located in Toan Luu commune, belonging to Phu Hung Ha Tinh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company), this unit is currently supplying the market with four main product lines, including: solid brick 10, solid brick 15, 6-hole brick and 2-hole brick.

Mr. Ngo Dinh Dung - Deputy Director of Phu Hung Ha Tinh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company said that the demand for civil construction and infrastructure has increased rapidly in a short time, forcing the factory to mobilize maximum labor and machinery to work continuously every day. However, the biggest difficulty now is that the source of soil - the main ingredient in brick production - is becoming scarce and has increased in price. This has caused input costs to increase significantly, forcing the factory to adjust brick prices.
Specifically, the prices of fired bricks supplied by the factory have increased by about 10% to 20% compared to the same period last year. However, the company said it has proactively implemented a number of support policies for close dealers, reducing the pressure on output prices for end consumers. However, for people who are directly building or repairing houses, the impact of this price increase is still very clear.

At Binh Ha Tuynel Brick Factory (located in Thach Xuan commune, belonging to Viet Ha Joint Stock Company), the main types of fired bricks produced include 4-hole hollow bricks (size 201x95x95 mm), 6-hole hollow bricks (205x135x95 mm), solid bricks 205x93x53 mm and solid bricks 205x137x33 mm.
Mr. Tran The Nghia - Deputy Director of the company said that the recent storms have caused significant damage to production activities, a large part of the finished bricks were damaged due to water seepage, the factory roof was blown off, and the repair costs were large. At the same time, the cost of fuel, materials and labor in harsh weather conditions also increased. To maintain production activities and ensure product quality, the company was forced to adjust the selling price of bricks, with an increase of 100 - 200 VND/piece depending on the type.

Notably, the price of 6-hole hollow bricks has increased the most, by 200 VND per brick. Mr. Nghia affirmed that the price adjustment is calculated at the minimum necessary level, not for profiteering, and the company still maintains a priority policy for civil works in areas affected by storms and floods.
From the consumer side, the increase in brick prices is forcing many families to recalculate their construction plans. Mr. Tran Van Hoang (residing in Thanh Lan village, Thach Khe commune) is building a house with an area of about 100 square meters, said he needs more than 8,000 tunnel bricks to complete. With an increase of nearly 200 VND per brick, the total cost of bricks alone has increased by millions of VND.

“This is not a small amount of money for my family at this time, after just going through a big storm, the old house has some damaged items. There are many repair costs, now the price of materials has increased, making everything even more difficult,” Mr. Hoang shared.
According to a survey from a number of construction material distributors in Thach Ha, Loc Ha and Cam Xuyen, Duc Tho communes... the number of customers buying burnt bricks tends to increase after the storm. Construction contractors also said that labor and material costs have increased, in which bricks are the item that has the biggest impact on the total budget for rough construction.
Mr. Nguyen Tham - a construction contractor in Duc Minh commune, said that the increase in the price of burnt bricks from 150 to 200 VND per brick is putting a lot of pressure on civil works, especially after the storm. For each level 4 house, the cost can increase by millions of VND just for the bricks, forcing many families to cut down on items, switching from solid bricks to hollow bricks.

According to Mr. Tham, many contractors like him are in a difficult position when they accept contracts at the old unit price, but materials are constantly increasing. If they do not adjust in time, they will suffer losses. If they quote new prices, customers will be hesitant, leading to work stagnation.
The fluctuation in brick prices during this time is creating great pressure for both people and construction units. Although the factories have clearly stated the objective reasons regarding costs and input materials, for the people, having to bear additional costs while life is still difficult after natural disasters is a truly worrying issue.
