
Consolidating the region's "locomotive" position
For a long time, Da Nang city (old) has been identified as a growth pole, the center of the Central Key Economic Zone. However, due to the economic scale not being superior to neighboring localities, Da Nang's role in leading regional development is not clear.
After merging with Quang Nam , the total budget revenue of Da Nang city in the first 9 months of 2025 will reach more than 40 trillion VND; the city's GRDP scale in 2024 will reach more than 280 trillion VND, both the highest in the region and creating a relatively large gap compared to the remaining localities in the Central Dynamic Region.
More importantly, Da Nang city has many areas that have gradually established the role of a regional center. In the tourism sector, Da Nang has affirmed its central role with tourism revenue reaching more than 47.5 trillion VND (contributing more than 55% of the total regional tourism revenue). Notably, the number of high-class accommodation establishments (4-5 stars) in Da Nang is currently the highest in the country with more than 160 establishments.
In the logistics sector, Da Nang city is the main hub of the region with a synchronous infrastructure system of airports, seaports, and highways, which are continuing to be invested in, newly built, and upgraded (Lien Chieu port, Chu Lai airport, etc.).
Mr. Bui Tran Nhan Tri, Deputy General Director of Thilogi (a unit of THACO) informed that the unit has been investing heavily in logistics and seaports, thereby helping THACO and businesses in Da Nang as well as in the region to facilitate the import and export of goods.

In the logistics sector, THILOGI implements an integrated operating model with a complete logistics chain, from road transport, seaports (Chu Lai International Port), domestic and international shipping to warehousing, packaging, synchronous and seamless connection with other supporting logistics services.
“Currently, Chu Lai International Port has been systematically invested in wharf infrastructure, warehouses, and equipment. At the same time, it has developed a complete service chain capable of handling a variety of goods such as liquids, gases, containers, oversized and overweight cargo, bulk cargo, etc., becoming an international container transit gateway, connecting with the Central Highlands, Laos, Cambodia, and the North and South regions,” said Mr. Tri.
In some other fields, Da Nang has also affirmed its "core" role, with the ability to spread and lead the region such as: Digital economy, finance - banking, education - health services, startups - innovation...
Many experts agree that Da Nang is currently the most comprehensive and dynamic growth pole in the region, converging all the elements of an industrial - service - urbanization center. Da Nang is a center of logistics, finance, tourism and digital technology, playing an important role in modernizing the regional economic structure.
Moving towards being a pilot site for digital government, smart cities and green finance models, carbon markets, with the potential to spread new development standards in services, high-tech industries and modern urban governance.
Waiting for more momentum from breakthroughs
Da Nang's position as a regional growth pole will be further enhanced with a series of key projects being implemented or planned to be launched. In the urban area, Da Nang is studying the plan to reclaim the sea in Da Nang Bay to form an integrated urban area with a free trade zone, an international financial center, and an ecological urban area.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that the implementation of a free trade zone of nearly 1,900 hectares with 7 modern functional areas, directly connecting Lien Chieu port, international airport, high-tech park and international financial center will open up new development space, forming a dynamic and deeply integrated trade - industry - service ecosystem. This will be an important boost to help the city make a breakthrough in investment, production and export cooperation, creating a foundation for Da Nang to develop into a major goods transit point in the Mekong Sub-region.
Regarding strategic infrastructure, besides Lien Chieu port which is taking shape, Da Nang also owns the only planned 4F airport (the largest level) in the Central region, Chu Lai airport. To concretize the planning, Da Nang is actively promoting so that by 2030 the city will form 2 urban railway lines with a total length of 24 km; by 2040, there will be 3 lines with a total length of 49 km; by 2045, there will be 11 lines, 131 km long. When completing this strategic infrastructure network, Da Nang will become an international logistics hub, enhancing the competitiveness of the region.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Tam, Director of the Department of Finance of Da Nang, said that in the period of 2026 - 2030, Da Nang will form new growth drivers, strategic economic pillars, creating an integrated and widespread ecosystem, such as an international financial center, a free trade zone, a logistics center associated with Lien Chieu Seaport... Thereby, not only continuing to affirm its role as a development locomotive of the Central Highlands region, but also striving to make Da Nang a strategic growth pole in the national and international economic ecosystem.
