Tay Ninh: Signing cooperation agreement on cassava production with the Cambodian Cassava Federation

Attending the conference on the side of the Kingdom of Cambodia were representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, the Cambodian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, the Cambodian Commercial Counselor in Vietnam and the Cambodian Cassava Federation.

On the side of Tay Ninh province, there were leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Foreign Affairs, leaders and member enterprises of the Tay Ninh Province Tapioca Starch Production Association.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Huu Hung - Vice President of Vietnam Cassava Association, representative of Tay Ninh Province Cassava Starch Production Association said that the conference aimed to establish a long-term cooperative relationship in the field of cassava production, processing and consumption, promote cross-border trade activities, create a foundation for the formation of a sustainable raw material supply chain, increase export value and promote the role of Tay Ninh as a bridge in economic cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Chairman of the Cambodian Cassava Federation Oknha Chray Sun hopes that after signing the cooperation agreement, the Tay Ninh Cassava Starch Production Association and the province's cassava processing enterprises will strengthen the transfer of science and technology in cassava cultivation to Cambodian farmers and enterprises to improve productivity and quality. He also asked the provincial authorities to support the transportation of cassava through border gates.

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Chau Thi Le said that the cooperation between the Tay Ninh Cassava Starch Production Association and the Cambodian Cassava Federation plays an important role, not only directly solving the problem of fresh cassava consumption for Cambodian people, stabilizing raw materials for factories, but also creating a foundation for improving the value chain of the cassava industry, promoting the increase of export value of enterprises of the two countries, and at the same time contributing to strengthening the cross-border economic and trade cooperation relationship between Tay Ninh province and Cambodian provinces.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Tay Ninh is the locality with the largest cassava growing and processing area in Vietnam, with a total annual planting area of over 60,000 hectares, with an average yield of about 33.3 tons/hectare. Tay Ninh currently has over 65 cassava starch processing factories in operation, and the raw material source within the province can only meet about 50-55% of the demand. The rest, businesses must purchase from outside the province or import from Cambodia.
