Storm No. 3 causes dozens of houses on the Quang Tri border to have their roofs blown off

On the afternoon of July 22, according to a quick report from the Department of Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, due to the impact of storm No. 3, in the western part of Quang Tri province, there were strong winds and rains, causing dozens of houses in the border area to have their roofs blown off and completely collapse.

Specifically, the house of Mr. Ho Van Chien's family in Ho village, Huong Phung commune was completely collapsed; 23 houses in La Lay commune had their roofs blown off. The houses with their roofs blown off were mostly those of ethnic minorities in the border area with an estimated damage level of 30 - 90% of the roof, walls and porches damaged.

In addition, some newly sown rice fields and freshwater fish ponds of Cat village, Huong Phung commune were swept away; the impact of storm No. 3 also caused a complete power outage in Tria and Cat villages, Huong Phung commune.

Faced with the complicated developments of the storm, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province promptly issued dispatches to direct response, organized calls for ships to take shelter in safe places, and requested localities to review areas at risk of landslides and flash floods to proactively deploy measures to protect people.

The province currently has more than 8,200 fishing vessels with nearly 26,000 workers. As of 10:00 a.m. on July 22, there were 151 vessels with 627 workers operating at sea. Units have coordinated with local authorities to notify captains and owners of vessels operating at sea to proactively prevent and have appropriate production plans, ensuring safety for people and property.

In addition, localities are required to inspect and review low-lying areas and areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides to have proactive response plans. Thereby, they are ready to deploy forces and means to rescue and support people when situations arise. Currently, the functional forces of Quang Tri province are continuing to monitor weather developments, urgently overcome the consequences of the storm and support people to stabilize their lives after the natural disaster.
