After winning the runner-up position of US Junior Amateur 2025, Nguyen Anh Minh continued to maintain stable performance when entering the opening round of Western Amateur Championship 2025.
Anh Minh started impressively with 3 birdies after only the first 4 holes, and ended the round with a total of 6 birdies and 3 bogeys, achieving a result of 67 strokes (-3), temporarily ranked T12. This achievement gave Anh Minh a big advantage in the race to overcome the cut after the first 36 holes.
In contrast to his teammate, Le Khanh Hung had an unsatisfactory day. Despite scoring an early eagle at the par-5 3rd hole, the golfer born in 2008 could not take advantage of the scoring opportunity in the rest of the day. He had a total of 2 double bogeys and 8 bogeys, finishing with 80 strokes (+10), temporarily ranked T153.
Leading the leaderboard after the first day of competition is home golfer Tyler Watts, who just faced Anh Minh at the 2025 US Junior Amateur, with an excellent round of bogey-free 62 strokes (-8).
In round 2, Le Khanh Hung will start at 7:15 am (local time) from hole 10, while Nguyen Anh Minh will tee off from hole 1 at 12:40 pm.

The tournament is also part of the seven most prestigious amateur tournaments in the United States, along with the Sunnehanna Amateur, Northeast Amateur, North & South Amateur, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Southern Amateur and Pacific Coast Amateur.
The 2025 Western Amateur will take place from July 29 to August 2 at Skokie Country Club (Illinois), bringing together 156 golfers from around the world . After two rounds of 18-hole stroke play, the 44 golfers with the best scores and ties will pass the first cut, to continue to compete in 36 holes of stroke play and the second cut. The 16 names with the best results will enter the knockout round to compete for the championship.
