In that moonlight, there are the clear faces of children from years ago and the figures of adults today, as if reflecting on their childhood in the moonlight of a long time ago.
Thai Nguyen children happily celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. |
In those days, Mid-Autumn Festival did not have many cakes, nor was it as bustling as it is now. Star lanterns were made from bamboo strips, covered with colorful glossy paper, and the flickering candlelight shone on the innocent and happy faces of children. Sometimes the Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns were just plastic boxes, with a flat strip skewed through the thin box wall, and a small candle was attached to it.
The light trembled in the wind, making the children both nervous about the candle being blown out by the wind, and excited. The joy was simple, but that day was full. Now, the Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns are lit by batteries, the music is loud, candies of all kinds are more convenient and beautiful, but it seems that somewhere, the moonlight of memories has unintentionally faded in the hustle and bustle of life.
Mid-Autumn Festival is a children's festival, but it is also an occasion for adults to reflect on their own lives. In the hustle and bustle of work and the constant flow of information on social networks, we sometimes forget to put down our phones, sit with our children for a while, listen to them talk about school, or watch the full moon rise from the end of the alley.
Sometimes the gift is given quickly through a few text messages, through luxurious gifts, but behind the child's smile there is a lack of the eyes and arms of the parents. The moon is still full in the sky, but in the hearts of adults sometimes there is a lack of peace.
But fortunately, every time the moon comes, that gentle light still reminds us of something so pure. It is the feeling of being loved, of returning, of reliving a part of childhood. The moonlight does not distinguish between rich and poor, urban and rural. It shines on everything, softening daily worries, making people want to be closer to each other, wanting to give better things.
In an era where children can easily find joy on their phone screens, Mid-Autumn Festival is even more precious, like the gentle moonlight reflecting on simple things that have passed away. Just sitting together under the moon, sharing a piece of cake, a grapefruit segment, listening to the bustling sound of lion drums is enough for a season of reunion.
The moon this year is still as bright as the moon of the previous year, the only difference is that we have grown up. Amidst the bustling streets filled with lion drums and flower lights, amidst the Mid-Autumn Festival programs that the province has carefully organized for children everywhere, the moonlight still shines into the hearts of adults, reminding us of a childhood that has never been lost.
When we look at the children today carrying lanterns in complete joy, we see that we need to do more so that joy does not only come from the festival, but also from love, presence and family values that are nurtured every day. Because the happiness of children will only be truly complete when it is illuminated by the love, sharing and responsibility of adults today.
