The treaty will be signed in London during a meeting between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his British counterpart Keir Starmer. According to the British government , the agreement will help strengthen border security, combat organized crime, expand defense cooperation, and foster closer coordination with the European Union (EU).
In addition, the two countries will cooperate to enhance industrial and technological capabilities to develop modern weapons, including advanced ammunition and a joint production program for medium-range anti-aircraft missiles.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss the increased risk of “hybrid attacks” in Europe, including arson attacks in East London and other areas across Europe, along with espionage and cyberattacks.
Speaking ahead of the signing ceremony, British Prime Minister Starmer stated that current security challenges require the two countries to build a closer partnership. He emphasized that this is the biggest step forward in defense and security relations between the two countries in decades, helping both sides to address modern threats.
On the Polish side, Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the signing of the treaty "a historic moment." He said that, in addition to defense, a significant part of the agreement would focus on cybersecurity. Warsaw has long warned that its central role in transiting military aid to Ukraine has made the country a target for espionage, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns.
The new treaty with Poland is seen as part of a broader British strategy to strengthen security ties with European allies. London had previously signed similar defense agreements with France and Germany. Meanwhile, Poland has also signed a defense treaty with France in 2025 and is pursuing a similar agreement with Germany.
Observers believe that the trend of European countries strengthening bilateral defense alliances reflects growing concerns about the regional security environment, especially as the administration of US President Donald Trump repeatedly urges Europe to take on more responsibility for its own security.
