"Eliminating illiteracy" in technology with all your heart
"Popular education number" is a new and creative initiative launched by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in this year's "Summer Youth Volunteer" Campaign. Inspired by the spirit of eliminating illiteracy in the early years of the resistance war, the movement aims to "eliminate illiteracy" in digital skills, supporting people, especially the elderly and manual workers, to gradually become familiar with technology and confidently use smart devices in their daily lives.
With more than 3,500 volunteer teams of "Digital Education for the People" established nationwide, tens of thousands of union members and young people from universities and local youth union organizations have participated in many training courses, providing guidance on using public services, skills to protect personal information in cyberspace as well as basic operations with digital devices.
In many places, young people have effectively applied the "1 on 1" model. Accordingly, each volunteer will directly guide each person in the operation according to the motto "holding hands to support" - slowly and wholeheartedly. This has created a close, friendly atmosphere, helping learners not feel pressured, easily absorb the "lesson".
“I am 60 years old this year, and have only used smartphone to listen and receive calls. Thanks to the children's guidance, I learned how to look up vaccination information, make medical appointments, and even learned how to transfer money via a banking app," Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Krong Buk district, Dak Lak province excitedly said.
Young, dedicated companions
Not simply a teaching and learning activity, the “Digital Education for All” movement is gradually affirming its role as a companion to people conquering cyberspace safely and effectively. Just like that, classrooms without blackboards or white chalk are gradually filled with laughter as learners master their phones.
Along with that, volunteer teams also become a bridge connecting generations and spreading responsibility of youth with the community in a very natural way. Many students not only teach skills, but also help people install applications, "clean up" phones, and even... repair devices for people.
"Every time we help a lady or an uncle know how to look up administrative procedures or read safety news, we share the joy of the people, understanding that we are doing a practical and humane job," Nguyen Thi Minh Hang, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, shared.
It is known that within the framework of the Launching Ceremony of the "Summer Youth Volunteer" Campaign in 2025, by Central Youth Union In coordination with Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Sacombank) held in Gia Lai province recently, the Organizing Committee awarded more than 4 billion VND in funding to support Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union in implementing social security activities, building new rural areas, accompanying ethnic minority youth and students in difficult circumstances.
With careful preparation and a large, proactive, and creative force of union members and youth, we believe that "Digital Education for the People" will not stop at a temporary voluntary activity, but instead be a start for people, especially vulnerable groups, to confidently enter the digital environment and benefit from policies from the national digital transformation.
