The tropical depression is strengthening and has the potential to become a typhoon when it enters the South China Sea in the next two days. In addition, a convergence zone extending across the central region, connected to the aforementioned tropical depression, will cause bad weather at sea and heavy rainfall inland in the central and southern regions.

The aforementioned weather pattern is causing thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong gusts of wind (level 6-7), and waves 2-4.5 meters high in many areas of the East Sea; on land, the central and southern regions are experiencing widespread rain, with localized heavy rainfall.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 AM on September 17th, the center of the tropical depression was located over the sea east of Luzon Island (Philippines). The strongest winds near the center were at level 7 (50-61 km/h), with gusts up to level 9. It was moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of approximately 15 km/h.

Forecasts indicate that by 1:00 AM on September 18th, the tropical depression will be located in the sea north of Luzon Island (Philippines). Its intensity will be level 8, with gusts up to level 10. By 1:00 AM on September 19th, it is likely to enter the northeastern South China Sea and strengthen into a typhoon with intensity levels 8-9, and gusts up to level 11.

Due to the tropical convergence zone with its axis passing through the northern South China Sea and connecting with a tropical depression over the sea east of Luzon Island, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Gia Lai , and the northern, central, and southern South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa special zones) will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms.

On the night of September 17th, the northeastern part of the North East Sea experienced increasingly strong winds, reaching levels 6-7, gusting to level 9; near the storm's center, winds reached level 8, gusting to level 10, with rough seas and waves 2.5-4.5 meters high.

In the central area of ​​the South China Sea, winds are at force 5, sometimes force 6, gusting to force 7-8, with rough seas and waves 2-3 meters high.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang , and the Gulf of Thailand; storms are expected in the northeastern part of the North East Sea from tonight. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind (level 6-7), and waves over 2 meters high.

The risk level for natural disasters due to strong winds in the northeastern part of the South China Sea is at level 3. All vessels operating in these areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds, and high waves.

On land, from last night and early this morning (September 17th), the area from Hue City to Khanh Hoa experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain; many places received over 50mm of rainfall, such as Quang Dien (Hue) 68.2mm, Ia Kenh (Gia Lai) 88.4mm, Song Hinh ( Dak Lak ) 51.8mm…

The forecast for this afternoon and tonight is for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the area from Hue City to Lam Dong and the Southern region, with rainfall of 15-30mm, and locally heavy rain exceeding 80mm.
