According to Gizmochina , user X named @negativeonehero just posted a tweet saying that the multi-core score of the A18 Pro on Geekbench is expected to be only about 10% higher than the A17 Pro. Specifically, the single-core score of Geekbench 6 for the A18 Pro is about 3,500 points, while the multi-core falls to about 8,200 points. For comparison, the Geekbench score of the iPhone 15 Pro equipped with the A17 Pro chip is 2,906 points and 7,231 points, respectively for single-core and multi-core.
The A18 series will be the chip line equipped for the iPhone 16 series this year.
If this is accurate, it could be good news for Android users as the multi-core score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to reach 10,628 points, close to the performance of the M3 chip. Meanwhile, the multi-core score of the Dimensity 9400 chip that MediaTek is developing also exceeds 11,000 points.
However, the strength of Apple's mobile chips is single-core performance, so some analysts believe that the iPhone maker may have intentionally weakened the A18 Pro's multi-core performance to improve overall battery life on devices equipped with them.
Previous reports have suggested that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will come with the A18 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will come with the A18 Pro chip. The biggest change to the chip series is that they will use an "upgraded neural engine" to significantly improve the artificial intelligence power and machine learning performance of the iPhone 16 series, and Apple will also provide a series of new general AI functions for Siri, Shortcuts, Messages, Apple Music, etc.
