Ho Chi Minh City Post Office hopes to be ranked as a relic

On the morning of October 16, Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Department had just received an official dispatch from the Ho Chi Minh City Post Office signed by Director Nguyen Nhu Thuan, stating that 'the Department agreed on the viewpoint of supporting the ranking of special historical architectural monuments and is ready to coordinate in preparing a dossier to propose the ranking of a city-level monument (or national level, if qualified), in order to honor the architectural and historical value of the City Post Office'.

In the document, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thuan emphasized: "The City Post Office hopes that the process of ranking the relic will be an opportunity to work with the authorities to build a long-term strategy, harmonizing conservation and development, to turn the Ho Chi Minh City Post Office building into a Southeast Asian-scale urban cultural heritage - a place where historical values, architecture and community cultural interaction converge."

According to Thanh Nien reporter, the plan is to replace the roof tiles of the building by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, at the latest in the first quarter of 2026, due to the deterioration and leakage affecting the architecture. The Ho Chi Minh City Post Office building is a work bearing the French architectural imprint of the late 19th century, completed in 1891 - a vivid symbol of the history of formation and development of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City over the past 100 years.

Ho Chi Minh City Post Office was once voted as one of the 100 most attractive tourist destinations in Ho Chi Minh City and was ranked 2nd among the 11 most beautiful post offices in the world by Architectural Digest magazine (USA).
