Caudron beat the last World Cup champion
In the quarter-finals of the 2025 World Championship of 3-cushion billiards held in Antwerp, Belgium, Frederic Caudron faced Martin Horn (Germany). Horn is in top form and has just won the most recent World Cup billiards championship in Antwerp. The German representative is also the one who beat Tran Thanh Luc in the round of 16. However, Caudron proved why he is nicknamed "genius".
Martin Horn had a series right at the beginning of the match and took the lead. Caudron then fought back strongly to level the gap and overtake his opponent. In just 3 turns (from 7 to 9), the Belgian player scored 22 points, with series of 8, 6 and 8 points respectively. This was also the turning point of the match, causing Martin Horn to fall into a stalemate. Frederic Caudron only needed 16 turns to score 50 points, winning 50-24 against Martin Horn.
Caudron is looking for his first championship since returning to UMB (in May 2024)

Results of the remaining quarter-final matches: Arnim Kahofer (Austria) beat De Bruijn (Netherlands) 50-39, Eddy Merckx (Belgium) beat Berkay Karakurt (Türkiye) 50-19, Cho Myung-woo (Korea) beat Nikos Polychro (Greece) 50-15.
The semi-finals of the 2025 World Championship will take place this afternoon, October 18. In the first semi-final, Frederic Caudron will meet Arnim Kahofer at 5 p.m. Arnim Kahofer is considered the "dark horse" of this tournament. The Austrian player is a fairly unfamiliar name to 3-cushion carom billiards fans, having never won a World Cup billiards tournament or a World Championship title.
Semi-final 2 is the confrontation between Cho Myung-woo and Eddy Merckx, taking place at 19:30. This promises to be an exciting match, as Cho Myung-woo is the reigning champion of the World Championship, and Merckx is the most experienced player in the world of 3-cushion carom.
The two semi-final winners will compete in the 2025 World Championship final at 11 p.m.
