At noon on February 2, the leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front met and commended a group of exemplary overseas Vietnamese who have made many contributions to the country and the community in many fields. This event is part of the "Homeland Spring" program in 2024, held from February 1 to 2 (December 22 and 23) in Ho Chi Minh City with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City - continuing the shining heroic epic".
Remittances increase "record"
Attending the event were Ms. To Thi Bich Chau, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that there are currently nearly 6 million Vietnamese people living, studying and working in 130 countries and territories. Over the past year, despite facing many difficulties due to the impact of the global economic recession and political instability in many places, overseas Vietnamese have still made efforts to adapt, stabilize their lives and continue to contribute to their homeland.

Economically , as of November 2023, there were 421 projects of overseas Vietnamese in 29 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with a total registered capital of over 1.72 billion USD. According to data from the State Bank, remittances in 2023 are estimated to reach 16 billion USD, an increase of 32% compared to 2022. According to Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, overseas experts, intellectuals and businessmen continue to participate in many activities to connect, advise and give advice to ministries, branches and localities in socio-economic development, focusing on specific and practical fields, in line with the country's development orientation in the new situation. At the same time, overseas Vietnamese continue to carry out many support and humanitarian activities in the country.
New policies needed to attract young overseas Vietnamese
Sharing at the meeting, Buddhist nun Thich Tam Tri (a Japanese expatriate) expressed her joy at returning to Vietnam to celebrate spring and attend the "Spring in the homeland" program in 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City; at the same time, she affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community in Japan will strive to unite to make greater contributions and focus more on their homeland.
Many overseas Vietnamese at the meeting also said that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front should add more young and intellectual overseas Vietnamese to the system to increase opportunities to contribute and offer development advice. Vietnam also needs stronger policies to attract second and third generation overseas Vietnamese to participate in nation building.
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front met and honored outstanding overseas Vietnamese collectives and individuals in 2024.

Welcoming the overseas Vietnamese delegation to celebrate the spring, Ms. To Thi Bich Chau acknowledged the contributions of overseas Vietnamese to the country's development over the past time.
Ms. To Thi Bich Chau affirmed that in the coming time, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will strongly implement the work of overseas Vietnamese, moving towards unifying the awareness of the entire political system and the people about the importance of mobilizing, gathering and uniting overseas Vietnamese.
In addition, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will strengthen supervision and social criticism in continuing to perfect and implement policies and laws on overseas Vietnamese; perfecting mechanisms to promote overseas Vietnamese resources to contribute to the country's development and deep international integration.
On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also honored and awarded certificates of merit to 7 collectives and 15 outstanding overseas Vietnamese individuals who have made many contributions to the work of building the homeland.
