By the end of June, the total amount of remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City reached about 5.23 billion USD, a slight increase compared to the same period last year.
Notably, in the second quarter alone, the amount of remittances transferred through credit institutions and economic organizations reached nearly 2.82 billion USD, an increase of 16.9% compared to the first quarter (2.41 billion USD), and an increase of 22.1% compared to the second quarter of 2024 (2.31 billion USD).

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, commented that remittances in the second quarter of this year increased sharply compared to the same period in recent years, especially through the system of credit institutions and economic organizations.
By region, remittances from Africa recorded the highest growth rate of 130.8% compared to the same period last year. Europe increased by 16%, the Americas increased by 11.9%, and Oceania increased by 8.9%. Asia continued to be the main market, contributing the majority of total remittances, mainly thanks to the number of Vietnamese workers in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (China).
Ms. Lien said that the steady increase in remittances over the years has contributed to promoting consumption and investment, stabilizing foreign currency supply and supporting the city's economic recovery.
In addition to Ho Chi Minh City, some provinces in the region before merging with the State Bank of Region 2 (from July 1) also recorded a significant remittance flow through credit institutions. Specifically, the total amount of remittances in Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc as of June 30 reached more than 127.5 million USD.
Of which, Binh Duong leads with more than 53.2 million USD, followed by Dong Nai (42.3 million USD), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (27.2 million USD) and Binh Phuoc (4.6 million USD).
Previously, in 2024, the amount of remittances transferred to Ho Chi Minh City reached about 9.6 billion USD, an increase of about 140 million USD compared to 2023.
Statistics show that remittances to the city from Asia still account for the highest proportion, up to 53.8% of the total remittances flowing to the area, an increase of 24% compared to the same year in 2023.
