According to the latest report, a temporary restraining order has been put in place, immediately ending pickleball activities at Forest Hill Park. The community will only have 30 days to find a solution or new place to play before the ban officially becomes permanent.

Carmel is known for its unusual local laws, like banning ice cream cones and wearing high heels without a permit. So it was understandable that residents were put on the pickleball ban.

"We've had laws against ice cream cones and high heels for years, so banning pickleball seems like another weird thing," said Terry Moran, who regularly plays pickleball at Forest Hill Park.

The pickleball ban has sparked outrage among senior citizens who regularly play at Forest Hill Park, who say the decision was made without adequate consultation with the community.

“We tried to be as involved in the voting as possible, but it felt like we were left out of some of the decisions,” said pickleball player Cynthia Vanderburg.

The ban not only takes away a sporting activity but also an important community space, leaving many players expressing deep disappointment with the city government.

On the other hand, a small group of residents living near the park expressed their agreement with the city of Carmel's decision. "We are not bad people who want to ban people from playing sports. We just hope people will sympathize with the residential area that has to endure the noise from this sport," said a resident near Forest Hill.

Another added: "There are other places for them to play. I have no choice. What should I do? Sell my house and move?"

Forest Hill is Carmel's only public park with a pickleball court. The pickleball ban means Carmel pickleball enthusiasts have no choice but to find private courts or travel to neighboring cities.
