With this coordination, by early 2023, more than 72,000 people had registered to donate organs after death/brain death nationwide.
Of these, the number mobilized at the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation is more than 32,000 people. The number registered at Cho Ray Hospital is more than 34,000 people, and at Viet Duc Hospital is 630 people.
In addition, the Center has mobilized 100 people to register for organ transplants while still alive, more than 400 people to register for body donation...
Appreciating the efforts of the Association in the past term, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized that since 2014, only 265 people registered to donate organs, and now there have been 73,213 people and 7,498 successful organ transplants.
However, the number of organ transplants from living donors still accounts for more than 90%, so it requires efforts from the entire health sector in general and the Association in particular to promote the source of donated tissues and organs from brain-dead people.
"The support of religious dignitaries has greatly contributed to the success of the Association. The act of registering for organ donation and actively participating in propaganda activities by religious dignitaries is an example and a motivator for people to change their awareness, contributing to raising general awareness about organ donation to save lives..." - Deputy Minister Thuan said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was re-elected as President of the Association for Promoting Human Tissue and Organ Donation.
At the congress, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, President of the Vietnam Association for Organ and Tissue Donation, said that organ and tissue transplantation is an important achievement of the medical sector in treating diseases, especially for patients with chronic and serious diseases due to impaired and irreversible function of organs and tissues.
The Association hopes that the Law on Donation, Collection and Transplantation of Human Tissues and Organs will soon be amended, so that barriers in organ donation after death/brain death will be removed, contributing to the regeneration of many lives.
