According to a preliminary report from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first half of 2025, global pepper consumption is expected to increase slightly, while supply will decrease compared to the same period last year. Current pepper prices are recorded to be nearly double that of 2024, creating motivation for many countries to expand new planting areas. However, output from these new planting areas is expected to enter the market after 2-3 years, unable to immediately overcome the current shortage.
A highlight of this year is that farmers in pepper producing countries are not in a hurry to sell their products after harvest thanks to good prices, which helps them have a stable income. This contributes to maintaining the stability of domestic pepper prices and increases expectations that prices will continue to remain high in the coming time.
However, the domestic market still faces some difficulties. Although the US tariff has only a limited impact on export activities, the biggest obstacle at present is the lack of specific guidance for the Value Added Tax (VAT) Law. This lack of guidance makes it difficult for businesses to declare taxes, slows down transactions and temporarily dampens the domestic market.
Once tax regulations are completed and clarified, the Vietnamese pepper market is expected to recover strongly thanks to high demand from international markets, opening up positive prospects for the industry in the final months of the year.
