On the morning of July 13, at the Vung Tau City Hall, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the Central Red Journey Organizing Committee coordinated with the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to launch the Voluntary Blood Donation Program "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood in 2024."
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Hau, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, said that with the theme "Red Drops of Kindness", the Red Journey in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province attracted over 800 volunteers to register to donate blood on the main festival day.
Cho Ray Hospital Blood Transfusion Center received nearly 700 units of blood and more than 3,500 people registered during the entire program (from June 1 to July 28). These precious blood units contributed to bringing faith, hope and life to many patients in need of blood transfusion.
Mr. Le Van Hau also said that Red Journey is the largest voluntary blood donation program in the country. With the message “Connecting Vietnamese blood,” in 2024, the Red Journey program will be held in 51 provinces and cities across the country, including Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
This is a strong communication activity about the voluntary blood donation movement, propaganda about thalassemia and blood donation reception organization.
In 2024, the 12th Red Journey Program will be held in 51 provinces and cities in June and July, striving to achieve the following goals: to propagate and advise 1 million people on voluntary blood donation and thalassemia; receive at least 120,000 units of blood; mobilize at least 8,000 volunteers in localities who are Red Cross officials, members, youth, and volunteers to participate in the Red Journey and humanitarian activities in localities and units.
According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Red Cross, from December 2023 to May 2024, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in coordination with Cho Ray Blood Transfusion Center and Vung Tau Hospital received 13,725 units of blood (350ml) and 5 units of blood (250ml), reaching nearly 60% of the 2024 plan.
The number of repeat blood donors was 11,729, accounting for 85% of the total blood units received. The blood source received contributed to the treatment and emergency care of local patients and support for central hospitals.
Before the event in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the Red Journey took place in 35 provinces and cities and received nearly 24,000 units of blood on the main festival days. In addition, the Red Journey Organizing Committee also received over 50,000 units of blood on blood donation days in response to the program.
On this occasion, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Ba Ria-Vung Tau branch, presented 20 gifts to disadvantaged families who have contributed to the humanitarian blood donation movement of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province./.
