From July 14-16, a delegation from the General Administration of Customs of China, led by Mr. Li Mingdong - Head of the Animal and Plant Quarantine & Food Safety Department (Nanning Customs) and Ms. Wang Ying - Expert from the Technical Inspection and Quarantine Center (Kunming Customs), visited several large-scale durian growing areas and packaging facilities in Lam Dong province. After inspection and evaluation, the delegation highly praised the preparation and implementation of regulations by the durian growing areas and packaging facilities in Lam Dong province in accordance with import requirements.

Currently, the durian growing area in Lam Dong province is approximately over 42,000 hectares (accounting for 28% of the national durian growing area) and is currently in harvest season. The province currently has 334 export-oriented durian growing area codes covering 12,966.7 hectares and 57 durian packaging facility codes. At this time, Lam Dong durian is in full harvest season.

To ensure the quality of durian for export, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Lam Dong province is strictly monitoring growing areas and controlling product quality. Since April 16th, the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department has monitored 76 growing areas. The monitoring content follows the requirements of the Department of Plant Protection and Crop Production as well as the regulations of importing countries (mainly China). The focus is on checking cultivation logs to monitor the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and plant quarantine pests. The results show that the growing areas have met the requirements of importing countries and are eligible to maintain their durian export codes to the Chinese market. Currently, the Department is continuing to monitor 38 growing areas that have already been granted codes and 10 packaging facilities.

To control product quality, from the beginning of June 2025 to the present, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has collected 234 durian fruit samples from growing areas for analysis of pesticide residues, heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, and for pest identification. In the coming period, another 108 durian fruit samples will be collected for further analysis and testing.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment advises farmers to adhere to safe durian cultivation practices and ensure harvesting meets export standards. Farmers should cooperate with businesses, not sacrificing their relationships for profit, in order to create stability, sustainability, and a long-term value chain.

Growing areas must strictly adhere to production processes, monitoring, supervision, and pest and disease control procedures. Regular and proactive analysis is necessary to tightly control pesticide residues, heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, etc., in order to meet the requirements of importing countries. Packaging facilities must establish and strictly implement a one-way packaging process, ensure traceability, and invest in equipment to implement technical measures to meet the regulations of importing countries. The use of Yellow O in the processing and preservation of durian products must be prohibited.
