Leading universities in Ho Chi Minh City are gradually announcing their 2026 enrollment plans, with the general trend being to strengthen comprehensive admission methods, diversify criteria and reduce dependence on a single exam. This is considered an effort to select more comprehensive candidates and adapt to changes in the high school graduation exam in the future.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology maintains stability with a focus on comprehensive admission

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that the school's 2026 enrollment plan is basically unchanged from last year. Most of the quota (accounting for 95% to 99% of the total quota) is still for the Comprehensive Admission method.
This method is based on many factors, including academic results (transcripts, high school graduation exams and competency assessment tests), academic achievements, and cultural, sports and artistic activities of the candidates.
The subjects applicable to the comprehensive admission method are very broad, including:
Candidates with or without the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment test.
Foreign high school graduates.
Candidates use international admission certificates (such as SAT, ACT, IB, A-Level …).
Candidates register for the "international transfer" program (Australia, USA, New Zealand).
The minimum score for receiving applications for the combined admission method is 50 points (on a 100-point scale). The formula for calculating admission scores is: Admission score = Academic score + Priority score (on a 100-point scale).
Mr. Thang also informed that the school will soon announce any technical adjustments related to score conversion or weighting. In addition, the school also reserves about 1-5% of the total quota for the Direct Admission/Priority Admission method according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade diversifies methods and commits to large scholarships
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) will maintain five admission methods in 2026, according to Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions of the school. Maintaining diverse admission methods helps expand opportunities for candidates, reduce exam pressure and help the school adapt to changes in the high school graduation exam and capacity assessment in the coming years.
Admission methods include:
Consider high school graduation exam scores.
Consider 3-year academic transcript scores by subject combination.
Consider the assessment test scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Consider the specialized capacity assessment test scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education combined with transcripts according to subject combinations corresponding to each major.
Direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Notably, from 2026, the school will waive 100% of tuition fees for the entire course and support 3 million VND/month in living expenses for candidates admitted directly. Mr. Son affirmed that this is a commitment to invest in people, creating conditions for talented students to develop comprehensively.
However, from 2028, HUIT will have a big change: the school will stop considering independent transcripts and switch to a comprehensive capacity assessment method. This method combines transcript scores, high school graduation exam scores and Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment scores, into one scale with different proportions.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry switches to comprehensive admission from 2026
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH), said that the school will apply a comprehensive admission method from 2026, ending the current separate admission method.
The results of the transcripts, high school graduation exam scores and capacity assessment test scores (Ho Chi Minh City National University) will be converted to a common scale, with different proportions for each component.
Mr. Nhan added that after the Ministry of Education and Training has a specific plan, the school will develop a detailed 2026 enrollment plan. This plan will also include admission methods for candidates who do not take the competency assessment exam. Currently, IUH is applying 4 enrollment methods: direct admission, review of academic records, review of graduation exam scores and review of competency assessment exam scores.
