Da Nang proactively responds to heavy rains in the next 10 days

DNO - The Da Nang City Civil Defense Command has just sent a document to departments, branches, armed forces, People's Committees of communes, wards, special zones and units managing irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs about proactively responding to natural disasters from October 16 to 25.

According to the bulletin of the Central Hydrometeorological Station, from October 16 to 25, Da Nang will be affected by a low trough with an axis through the Central region; its activity will gradually strengthen and it is likely to connect with a tropical cyclone forming in the East Sea from October 19. At the same time, cold air will strengthen on October 20, 21 and 23.

It is forecasted that on October 19-21 and 24-25, Da Nang will likely experience moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. There is a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods and landslides on steep slopes.

The City Civil Defense Command requests agencies and units to seriously implement the directions of the City People's Committee in Decision No. 1657/QD-UBND dated September 26, 2025, Official Dispatch No. 2476/UBND-KT dated September 30, 2025 and Official Dispatch No. 2833/UBND-SNNMT dated October 13, 2025 on overcoming the consequences of storm No. 10 and floods after the storm.

At the same time, continue to closely monitor weather developments to proactively deploy disaster prevention and control plans.

Investors and project management boards need to review and clear the flow in the construction area to avoid local flooding.

People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones promptly notify the weather situation so that people can proactively respond, mobilize to clear sewers and water intakes; check areas at risk of landslides and flash floods and prepare evacuation plans to move people to safe places.

The Department of Construction presides over and coordinates with relevant units to deploy measures to prevent flooding. The Department of Agriculture and Environment guides safe production in heavy rain conditions. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism directs tourist areas, spots, and outdoor entertainment areas to ensure safety for visitors and infrastructure.

The city's Border Guard informed ships operating at sea about thunderstorms and strong winds so they could take precautions.

Dam and reservoir management units must increase inspection, monitoring, and supervision of rainfall and reservoir water levels, and operate and regulate according to approved procedures; promptly notify downstream areas when releasing floodwaters to ensure safety.

* From the evening of October 15 to the afternoon of October 16, many places in Da Nang city had heavy to very heavy rain. Some places had rainfall of more than 200mm such as: Cay Thong Lake (Que Son Trung commune) over 243mm, Phuoc Ha Lake (Thang Phu commune) over 208mm, Hoa Bac (Hai Van ward) over 204mm...

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from October 16 to 18, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 70 - 150mm, locally very heavy rain of more than 350mm.

Warning of risk of rain with intensity greater than 200mm in 3 hours. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Warning, from October 18 to 19, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50 - 100mm, locally very heavy rain of more than 150mm.

This heavy rain is likely to last for a long time. Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
