Urgently restore forest areas damaged by storms

In order to promptly overcome the consequences of natural disasters, the Department of Forestry and Forestry ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) has requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment of localities to urgently compile statistics and classify the level of forest damage to have appropriate treatment plans.

Many forest areas in Tuan Dao commune were buried by landslides.

For planted forests that are still able to recover, it is necessary to carry out forest sanitation and exploit forest products according to regulations, while strengthening forest protection, fire prevention and fighting; and applying appropriate silvicultural measures to restore affected areas.

For natural forests such as protection, special-use and production forests, it is necessary to collect flammable materials, repair firebreaks and promote natural regeneration or supplementary planting to improve forest quality.

In addition, localities should review seed sources, supply capacity and demand for seedlings to develop appropriate production plans. Nursery repairs and disinfection should be urgently implemented to ensure the quality of seedlings for planting and restoring damaged forests.

The selection of tree species and restoration techniques must comply with the National Forestry Planning and local forestry development plans. Priority is given to planting mixed-species, multi-canopy forests with native tree varieties, multi-purpose trees with good growth ability, dense foliage, evergreen, developed root systems and high resistance to harsh environmental conditions, pests and other adverse factors.
